Mercedes, Audi plan more diesels for the U.S. market
As diesel engines have experienced a renewed popularity, Mercedes-Benz and Audi aim to double their diesel offerings in the U.S. to reel in the luxury buyers. And it certainly has believers in high places as Cher has been reported to have chosen to test a Mercedes diesel instead of opting for a hybrid.

Diesel still isn't common enough in the US to make it worth owning a diesel car. Put of all the gas stations around my house and between me and work and school there is only one gas station that has diesel, and they don't take credit cards which just makes it so much more of a hassle to use diesel.

But people have to start buying diesels for gas stations to add it. It's a chicken or egg problem and the car manufacturers have decided to move first.

People have to realize that diesel cars are way more fuel efficient.
Especially if driven hard, petrols and even hybrids have horrendous fuel economy whereas diesel cars are extremely efficient even during rough driving. This is where I love diesels, as I can drive like an enthusiast and still get great fuel economy. I am waiting for that new 300 Bhp 535d! Also, give me a good diesel hybrid and then you have the best of both worlds!

I've had my 2011 M Sport 335d for 7 months and it is quite simply the best car I've ever owned. The combination of power, driving dynamics and fuel efficiency is astounding. Averaging 500 miles a tank and I use all that torque all the time.

Audi & Mercedes are wise to start bringing more oil burners to the US. I'm hooked.

Definately would consider a Diesel next time around, but would love more choices so this is great news. Plenty of diesel fuel around me and with it's price about the same as premium it's definately an option

In North Carolina here, I've yet to come across a gas station that did not have a diesel fuel pump. I don't think finding a gas station with diesel fuel would be a problem. As more cars come into the US, I think the petroleum folks would ensure gas stations that didn't have one already, would be equipped. My sister has a BMW 335d and loves the power, torque and great gas mileage. Finding a diesel pump would be a non-factor for me.
