DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 001 DETAILS The 2012 BMW 650i Convertible
Now that the 2011 Detroit Auto Show is over for the press, we can take a closer look at the cars that we're intrigued with. The first example is the all-new 6-Series Convertible, which BMW has unveiled -- surprisingly -- before the hard-top 6'er.
After getting a look at the convertible, I am
definitely
looking forward to the coupe version.
One thing that's nice about the 2012 6-Series' top is that it doesn't appear clunky because it maintains the buttressed, soft-top design of the outgoing version. Thank god BMW didn't go for a folding metal roof with the 6!
Secondly, if all BMW interiors are given the same attention to detail, it seems that Audi may have some serious competition on its hands.
Any other remaining thoughts on the 2012 BMW 6-Series Convertible, Spies?

Is the 6 news? We've seen pictures for months. In any event, it looks much nicer than the staid-looking outgoing model. The Volvo-esque headlights/face/hood could have been done differently. The rear wrap-around and slanty lights remind me of stuff we see on economy Asian cars. For me, the 6 is not unattractive at all, but by the same token, it doesn't quite "do it" for me, either. A car in this price range and with this form factor should make people lust for it, IMNSHO.

@Steve
This is news simply because we're confident that no one has captured the top in action nor have we seen the colors and details we highlighted.
Oh yes, and it interested us as pointed out here:

@00R & @001: Sorry guys :-( I underestimated how much of a scoop it would be, and how riveting it would be for viewers to behold the spectacle of the first ever photos of a 6-series convertible roof being retracted. I completely overlooked that. My bad.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see it in person.

I like the new 6 but, that rear end is enough for me to say no.

Like most of BMW's recent designs, this is beyond beautiful. The look of simplicity is actually a result of a thousand small details done right.

The repetitive posts for the 6 series convertible have made it a bore. How come there are no pictures of the Gran Coupe? That's the only 6 series I'm interested in.
