Chevrolet Volt To Spawn Complete Line Of Hybrids
General Motors plans to introduce two more plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United States based on the Chevrolet Volt in the next few years, its chief executive, Daniel F. Akerson, said Tuesday.

Mr. Akerson, speaking at an industry conference near the Detroit auto show, also said G.M. could build at least 25,000 Volts this year, more than double its initial goal of 10,000.

The Volt, which went on sale in December and was named the North American Car of the Year during the show’s media preview, could become profitable in three years, after it moves to the second-generation design that is under development, he said.

Don't think the Volt will do well against Prius, Leaf, Focus and whatever else out there. It looks old already.

People don't buy these types of vehicles for looks (the prius is not good looking at all) they buy them for fuel economy and flexibility we will see how the volt stacks up when the sales figures come in.

"DETROIT — This was the year General Motors Co. and Nissan made good on their promise to bring mass-produced electric cars to the market. But don't count on seeing one in traffic soon. Sales so far have been microscopic and they're likely to stay that way for some time because of limited supplies.

GM sold between 250 and 350 Chevy Volts this month and Nissan's sales totaled less than 10 Leaf sedans in the past two weeks. Production for both is slowly ramping up.

It will be well into 2012 before both the Volt and Leaf are available nationwide."
