Fiat CEO Says Jeep Based Maserati SUV To Possibly Be Powered By A Ferrari V12
Maserati will get its own SUV model next year, built on the platform of Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Chrysler Group plant in Detroit, the companies announced Tuesday.

Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of both Jeep parent Chrysler Group and Maserati parent Fiat, said the new vehicle will debut in 2012, and that it will contain an engine designed by another Fiat unit, Ferrari.

"It will be a rock and roll engine," he said. It may come in both a V-8 and a V-12 version.

Yeah, THAT is exactly what everyone has been waiting for - a Maserati branded SUV based on a Jeep ....sigh.....

For some reason, I have faith in this upcoming vehicle program. Look at how the Grand Cherokee turned out. It looks nothing like a GLK, ML, or GL which its platform is based.

A Maserati SUV will be interesting. It will be one hot concept to see along with the next-gen Viper.

And who would think that Maserati would once again partner with Chrysler after the much lamented TC of the 1990s?

Its good to see at least one automaker can have vehicles based on the same platform yet look nothing alike. The Traverse/Outlook/Acadia look almost identical from the side.

Interesting.

Maybe they can also build a new, smaller coupe & Convertible based on the Crossfire Platform.

And a new Sedan based on the 300 platform.
