DETROIT AUTO SHOW: The Car BMW Didn't Highlight...
Although BMW was very proud to show off the all-new 2012 650i Convertible, 2011 1M Coupe and the 2012 1-Series LCI, one car that wasn't getting any attention was the 2011 BMW 550i wearing the M Sport Package.

Maybe because we're geeks or maybe because we like the finer details, Agent 001 and I adore this car. And, you also have to put this in perspective: this car is no slouch. Boasting its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, it has 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is more than an E39 M5.

With that said, here's what the M Sport Package gives you:

1) Adaptive drive
2) Three types of trim to select from: Aluminum, Anthracite, Light wood
3) Increased top speed limiter
4) Shadowline exterior trim
5) Multi-contour seats
6) Anthracite headliner
7) Exterior body kit
8) Upgraded wheels

If you want the package, be prepared because none of this comes cheap. Tack on an additional $6,500 to your bottom line for the M Sport option.

honestly i will wait for the M5 it has the same exact wheels as the 7 M series package. for what this offers its a waste of money. I love the new 5 series but even with the body kit it still looks like a plain jane 5 series. 6500 for some aesthetics you could have it. the wheels are definitley crap in my book. i will take a 550 and put my own wheels on it. If this is any indication of what the M5 will look like its definiteley a fail as far as im concerned. the M5 was ALWAYS different looking from the ordinary 5 series but only a few months will tell when the M5 actually drops.

looks great with the sports package, aggressive yet still classy. Hmmm, maybe I don't need to drive the new A6. 6MT, sports package, carbon black metallic w/cinnamon brown dakota leather. Yum!!!

The black headliner and speed de-limiter is the only thing I would want.

The stock 5er is gorgeous- no need to add anything.

In fact it could lose the 400lbs it gained from the E60......

Side profile looks like a big 3 series, interior lacks dimension or something, kinda bland. Needs new wheels....

Other than a new front fascia and different wheels, it doesn't look any special.

I love the 5 series. I always have. This car is fantastic, but I have one question. Why is there so little rear leg room? I mean, compact cars have more leg room it seems. Either my eyes are playing tricks on me or this car is seriously lacking in rear leg room. That would be my only complaint.

it's actually bigger in the rear than the last generation. they have the front seat all the way back. i'm 6'3" and someone can still sit behind me.

To you all of you who are just looking at the vehicle, the M Sport package has a lot moer to it than a body kit for $6500. duh! steering wheel, shifter, adjustable suspension, upgraded seats. not jsut aesthetics. drive it before you judge it. it really is awesome and I love this vehicle.
I will take a 6-speed in imola red please! also, add the carbon fiber spoiler.

I love the rear 3/4 view of this car. The rear wheel arches out giving it a nice wide look. I cant wait for the M5. Imagine another 200hp, 80 lb-ft and a DTC. I read on another blog, someone saw this testing at mirimas (BMW's private track), they said the engine has so much bass the ground shakes when it goes by!
