VW Operations Boss Wants Scirocco To Be Brought Back To US, What About You?
If Jonathan Browning gets his way now that he runs Volkswagen's U.S. operations, a familiar name could be plying the highways of America once again: Scirocco.
Asked this week about whether he'd like to add the familiar performance car of the 1980s and 1990s to the lineup, Browning replied: "I'd love to ... We were not able to make the case to bring it in this (product) cycle, but in the future, I'd love to see it here in the U.S." It's not like Scirocco needs to be created from scratch.

I know some people drool over it, but to me it should be longer and lower--like it was in the 80s, and possibly RWD or AWD--to be more different from the Golf/GTI. Otherwise it is just another FWD styling exercise.

Agree, it needs to be truly "sport" either AWD or RWD

Well it is a significant styling difference from the Golf.It also has a wider track while being lighter in weight. I hail the decision if it is made. The truth behind the reason that the Scirocco was not brought over is that VW of America(As in Stephan Jacoby) was concerned it would take away sales of it's precious Golf GTI.Since it is produced on the same production line as the Eos the excuse that it was too expensive too produce for export is total BS. However it does not make sense if VW is to expand world production. Further now that the new Passat is being produced at VAG's US plant VAG needs more models to better utilize capacity. To me it would be a no brainer to have the Scirocco made here in the US.This could keep the costs down significantly.I'm wondering if the advent of the new Hyundai Veloster prompted a rethink from VAG.Hmmmm

That would be nice as long as they don't cheapen it like the Jetta!!

bring it. I saw a number of sciroccos on a recent visit to Europe and they were eye-catching. This would be a good thing considering the generic direction on display in the newest VWs (Jetta, new Passat).

I'd prefer a new Corrado, with an aggressive stance and squared-off, muscular look inspired by the original. I'd love to see what Audi designers would do with such an assignment.
This Scirocco is too soft, in my opinion.

So here is my prediction. Since the plan would be for the "next" product cycle the will be based on a Jetta GLI platform or shortened
Passat platform.I'm leaning towards the latter. The reason is that
it could be built on the same assembly lines as the NMC Passat in Tennesee. This automatically keeps the price down. It also means that this car would be larger then the current Scirocco. It maybe an American
version only with a different Euro version for other markets.I predict
180 inches long 54 to 55 inches high and 72 inches wide. Will be FWD only and will offer the 260 HP turbo 4 cylinder. Curb weight 3300 LBS.
If it's based on the Jetta then look for a Jetta Coupe concept with cheapo version with a beam axle and a GTI version with IRS like the Jetta.

As long as they don't apply the same cost-cuttiing strategies as they did with the new Passat, I'm fine, bring it.
