RENDERED SPECULATION: Next-Gen BMW 3-Series, Is That You?
Although the current-generation BMW 3-Series dominates the entry-level luxury class -- in terms of sales --, BMW is gearing up for an exciting revamp of the E9x platform. For the past several months, spies have been capturing plenty of shots of the fully camouflaged vehicle undergoing testing but there has not been any defining characteristics revealed.

According to BMWBlog, this led "The rendering masters at Schulte Design," to take a crack at the next-generation design and this is what it came up with.

Obviously, these renderings are educated guesses but with that said, what would you like to see the next BMW 3-Series feature design wise? Where should BMW head? What should it leave behind? Do you think some interior concepts seen in the latest F10 5-Series or 2012 650i Convertible will make their way into the 3'er?

Next generation BMW 3-Series is due out in 2012 and the car will be unveiled later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The rendering masters at Schulte Design take a chance and attempt to “draw” the lines of the next F30 3-Series.

Built on a new modular platform, the F30 3er models, returns to the “slimmer look”, dynamic lines with squat proportions and short rear overhangs...

Looks the same. Is it just me or are the new 7 and 5 and now this 3 series look a bit bland.

I think the new 5 series is utter perfection. All the luxury and quality of the 7 series in a compact, sporty sedan. It's a perfect blend.

If you think it looks bland you need to see one in person, then drive it. I promise you'll fall in love.

I'll do that. Thanks. But I still think this 3 series rendering is bland and looks very similar to the model it will replace.

Totally agree. Similar to the lower front fascia of the 2011 Kia Optima as well.

I was thinking VW GTI, but yeah, the KIA certainly comes to mind as well.

I saw couple of the new BMW 7-Series, 5-Series and updated 3-Series, they look very similar to me except one is bigger than the other. The new BMW 7-Series look like a Freaking whale, it huge, the new 5-Series look rather bland (saw one during day time and one at night as well.) The rear lights look kind of weird burning orangenish looking color. And the updated 335i look like a shrunk version of the BMW 7-Series.

I think the BMW 335i from 2008 and 2010 look best for this generation. The new BMW 5-Series so much better with an M's package. The BMW 7-Series is just to big for me.

That's why I WANT it, especially on 335.

How can they call it the "Ultimate Drivers Car" without an LSD?

Next generation Chick-Car. The 3-series is such a chick car.

Whoa! It's got Mitsubishi headlights and Hyundai Genesis coupe mouth! How unoriginal.

Seems like everyone is taking styling queues from the Mitsubishi and Hyundai. Sad days at BMW. But I guess after Bangle anything is better.

This is a rendering by someone unassociated with BMW. You can say it looks like anything, but has little meaning. Ill wait until I see an actual car, not someones drawing.

If this is the car it's an improvement and a move back to the sharp lines of the series 2 3 series. All recent designs were getting really blobish. The new 6 series coupe is still too blobish. This car looks both sharper and crisper. That's the kind of design styling BMW needs.
