Bmw delays X1 launch in the United States, ‘blames’ the demand in Europe
The Bmw X1 seems to be a best-seller on the European market as the Bavarian manufacturer announced that it will not launch the small crossover in the United States before late 2011. Still, the vehicle may not arrive this year due to hot demand in Europe."We are supply constrained," said Jim O'Donnell, CEO of BMW of North America. "As long as they keep selling them, I do not know when we are going to get it." Apparently, the decision to delay the X1 crossover in the United States was made late last year.

real reason? it's because of the exchange rate USD and Euro

No way. Luxury car makers don't give up potential sales period due to the exchange rate. This car is selling well. Handles as well as 3-series. Priced well under 3-series AWD wagon, and still looks better than the wagon. Has reasonable cargo space. Better MPG than bigger Xs. Sounds like winning formula to me.

agreed. exchange rates are a fact of life. and the euro is weaker than it was a year ago....so why would they announce the launch a year ago and then back off when exchange rates are MORE favorable?

Who cares it will cost almost as much as the X3, let Europe keep it.

no it won't. it makes no sense to have an X1 cost the same as an X3. duh.

The X3 built in the US X1 in Europe, ergo cost more to build. Rumor has the X1 price at 33k-35k and the X3 is $36,750 a little to close for comfort, thats why BMW is only importing a handful.
