2012 Honda Civic Variations To Hit Dealers Quickly

2012 Honda Civic Variations To Hit Dealers Quickly
Although the 2012 Honda Civic only made its debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, it looks like Honda is going to be moving full-steam ahead with the Civic redesign. No hesitations allowed.

Even though the cars at the Detroit Show seemed to be conservatively styled with some strong touch ups on its exterior design, Honda hints that the big changes will be coming on the inside of the car. Another peculiar move that Honda has decided to give the go ahead to is that the brand will be releasing all of its Civics closely together. I guess the brand's delay in bringing the next-gen Civic changed the way Honda wanted to launch the 2012 Civic.

Typically when a new Civic rolls out, there is a bit of lead time before the next variation -- whether it's the motors or body style -- hits the market.

Given the Spies' overwhelmingly positive reaction to the pictures of the 2012 Honda Civic Concept, I am assuming that there are plenty of buyers eagerly waiting for the new Civic to hit showroom floors in April.

Honda will take a hurry-up approach when launching its delayed Civic family in April.

Unlike past Civic rollouts--which spread the debuts of model types and variations over months and even years--Honda will launch every variety of the 2012 Civic within weeks of each other, said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda...

It looks great! I hope the motor has more torque, the 140 hp is great, but the torque currently is too low, I own one, I know.

I'll be missing from the lineup outside the Honda dealer. It really looks more like a mid-cycle freshen up that should have occurred almost 2 years ago than a 2012 redesign. This would be the 9th gen Civic so given their typical usage of liters for generations (1.6L 6th gen, 1.7L 7th gen, 1.8L 8th gen) can we assume 1.9L?

I would predict the HP increase would be from a 2.0L giving about 150ish hp across the lineup, with the Si receiving the 2.4L from the TSX with 210-215hp. Unless Honda amazingly decided to FINALLY toss a turbo (a la RDX) and give the car a decent 240hp.

I would also assume that they are returning to a more standard dash instead of the all digital top/bottom awkwardness of the last generation.

While I am still interested in the details of the car, I still am not a buyer for a more Accord-like Civic. If I am not a fan of the Accord, why would I be a fan of this.

You may commence de-boosting.

I get a kick out of this comment in the article:

"When you get in [the current] car, it isn't roomy enough to be a Civic," she said. "That was what our focus was, getting back to where we once were: compact yet surprisingly roomy."

I'm sorry but just like a ride on the DC Metro ... a civic has never been "surprisingly roomy."

I hear there's a track version of the new Elantra coming with a turbo version of it's 1.8L engine that still uses regular gas and gets 40MPG. 250HP and much improved suspension. You can also get Genesis-like ultra-premium leather.
