Bentley management considering a third product line
In the next few months, Bentley management will have to make a critical decision on whether to push the development of an all-new third product line to compliment the ultra-luxury maker’s mid-range Continental and top-line Mulsanne offerings. The management team that is tasked to decide on this matter is led by new CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, who takes over from Franz-Josef Paefgen.

How do you out uber the Mulsanne? An even larger sedan wouldn't break much ground. I am thinking an SUV of some sort is what they would be considering.

Bentley doesnt have the prestige to price a car that high, their top model competes with Rolls Royce's entry level model. If anything VW group knows how to platform engineer why not give them a version of the R8 and Gallardo and produce that mid engined Bentley car from a few years back.

A couple of ideas
1: Smaller, cheaper Continental Flying Spur alternative
> Current Flying Spur starts at over $177,000 USD and comes with a 6.0L W12. Hardly what many people in more environmentally mindful times will consider viable. $20,000 more than the S600 and $40,000 more than the 760Li, and a lot more than the top model A8 currently being offered in the States. A new model all-together perhaps to shift into the high end parts of the E/5/A6 segment right up to entry level S/7/A8?

2: Mid-sized SUV
> Considering that Bentley are owned by VW, this new SUV could be based off the same VW platform that is shared with the current Touareg and Cayenne, and the next-gen Q7.

3: Alternative to completely new and smaller sedan
> Another 4-door, 4-seat coupe. Would be great way for VW to strengthen sales, as major players in this segment include the CLS-Class and the new Rapide. With Porsche's Panamera already in what seems like a 3-horse race, introducing another vehicle from a VW owned brand would widen their share in that segment. Could even be based on the Panamera platform.

What Bentley needs is a sports car! Perhaps something to fill in the niche between the R8/Gallardo and the up coming Murc replacement.
