What Next? LaHood Calls Automaker Meeting To Address Distracted Driving From Car Electronics
While he has pounded the bully pulpit, held high-profile media events and facilitated a limited texting-and-driving ban over the past year, LaHood dealt carefully with car companies whose interior electronics are key selling points.

Carmakers have accelerated offerings of souped-up navigation and entertainment systems to boost sales, which surged in 2010 following historic, recession-driven lows.

The government, which owns a third of General Motors Co and 10 percent of Chrysler following their federally supported bankruptcies, is mindful of heavy handed action against industry that might impact business and jobs.

I think the auto company from German, Japan, Italy, England and Korea etc have to much money and influence on our government and economy for this guy to really do anything about it.

FOOL

You were probably also happy with the fuel standards 20 years ago and 10 years ago.

I do not agree with the cretin Lahood on driving distractions but Emission and Mileage standards have not been detrimental to manufacturers.

The fact that we still see Fast, Good Handling Vehicles despite all those standards tells us that left to their own devices, auto manufacturers would sell cheaply constructed automobiles to the public all day for a decent profit and not improve standards all that much

This is what gets me on this site.

You are restricted to 55 - 75mph on USA roads

Most 2.0L DIESELS in the UK and Europe are easily able to reach 150mph

Why you guys ignorantly equate horrendous mileage to great vehicles is beyond me. If you can afford the Hypercars......Fine, if you can't, buy an imprezza or Evo10. There are also options in between like the M3s and M5s and its competitors.

Only a Monumental Idiot will tell me the Mustang or Camaro is better than the M3 or RS5 because it has a huge and stupidly simple engine and horrendous mileage compared to its German vehicles.

A 2.0L 4 cylinder 245hp engine that is super efficient and with great torque at low revs is about to be launched by BMW, in the USA without pressure from outside it requires a 4.0L engine to generate such hp numbers.

Only Fools keep doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.

There is a very clear reason you guys are way behind the competition so keep your head firmly buried in the sand. Its all Ray Lahoods fault that your manufacturers needed serious help to stay afloat.

Dude or manufacturers where only in trouble because of the American credit crunch. small displacement engines CAN get to 150, but how long dose it take them? and how long does it take a turbo or supercharger to wind up? Also a Mustang or Camaro is much different car from a M3 or RS5 so who cares witch one is better we have CTS-V's that beat them the M3 and RS5 in performance and in price.

Sorry Mate

I know your statements will get the approval of you fellow "patriots" however you are patently wrong.

I spend an awful lot of time in the USA.
I love the Value For Money you get when compared to shopping in Uk and Europe.
I Love the Petrol Prices
I Love the Vast and Open Interstate and Highway networks and drive on them as often as i can rather than fly
I Love the fantastic Customer Service and the No Nonsense attitudes customers have towards bad service.

However because i also travel all over the world i am able to also notice that the USA has its fair share of complete Morons who think that wrapping themselves in the American Flag and always mentioning God somehow allows them to talk absolute rubbish without people noticing that it is rubbish that was spoken.

If i happen to post comments that criticize american manufacturers, it is probably because we hardly discuss manufacturers from other countries that is not German or American.

Another American guy that assumes everyone not always proclaiming their Unquestioning Bling Faith to "God" is automatically "Anti-God"

FYI i was raised "Church Of England" which is basically "Anglican"

However unlike you i was born with the innate ability to ASK questions EXPECT answers and and not just accept the " Just Trust Us " doctrine which used to be the norm in most religions.

In fact more than one of my friends of the Islamic Faith has commented on how amazed they are at Christians ability to question the stories in the Bible and the dialogue between the preachers and the public at large, they tell me that in their religion, any kind of questioning that gives the impression of a lack of "Total Blind Faith" in the Holy Scriptures is met with serious hostility and could be even fatal for the person asking the questions.

So my question is this:

Why are you guys so eager to accept whatever tosh is said to you guys by everyone ranging from Priests to Celebrities to TV and Radio Presenters ?
Is it really that difficult to do some actual research rather than just getting drip fed bullshite ?

i also just love how you so ignorantly generalize all Americans. I also guess you believe than no one in the UK can be naive as well, it's a trait found in all humans and all nationalities.
