VIDEO: Hyundai Wants You To "SNAP Out Of It"

VIDEO: Hyundai Wants You To
We're just around the corner from Super Bowl Sunday and it appears that things are ready to heat up. As we saw with Audi's recent advertisement telling the Mercedes-Benz S-Class "Goodnight," it looks like the automakers are out to send a message this year.

Next up is Hyundai, who is redefining the compact car with the 2011 Hyundai Elantra. With plenty of room in the cabin, the all-new Elantra is going to make it known that there is nothing compact about it. The second ad suggests that manufacturers continue to make boring cars because consumers keep buying them.

**Make sure to take a peek at two of Hyundai's spots down below...

Let us know, is the 2011 Hyundai Elantra going to get you to "snap out of it?"

Hyundai's press release follows:

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CALIF., Jan. 20, 2011 – Hyundai Motor America sets the stage for its Super Bowl advertising with an integrated marketing campaign kicking off at the AFC Championship game on Sunday, Jan. 23. All-new spots airing in-game will run as an unbranded, viral campaign breaks online, with print, digital and direct marketing elements rounding out the 360-degree program, which builds over two weeks and culminates on Super Bowl Sunday. Two of Hyundai’s four 30-second in-game spots will highlight the all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra with the theme: “Snap Out of It.” Two additional spots will feature the hot-selling 2011 Sonata. Hyundai Motor America’s agency of record, Innocean Worldwide Americas, developed the new campaign.

Hyundai’s “Snap Out of It” campaign addresses years of consumer complacency towards the compact car segment.  Through a series of shorts that parody the history of compact car advertising, Hyundai tells the story of the hypnotized consumer mindset, conditioned to purchase compact cars for practicality and reliability, regardless of their uninspired design and limited innovation. Enter the all-new 2011 Elantra, a no-compromise alternative that finally screams “Snap Out of It” in an effort to deprogram those in the compact car trance.

Hyundai’s 2011 Super Bowl advertising blitz goes beyond television to include an unbranded, viral campaign through the integration of 10 online spots that reinforce the “Snap Out of It” theme. The online short films discuss the “conspiracy” behind compact car hypnosis and invoke consumer curiosity, generating buzz-building momentum leading up to the Super Bowl. Each of the viral shorts, filmed to look like consumer-generated content or documentary style, direct viewers to a different, unbranded microsite discussing the compact car conspiracy. These short films nor the microsites will be branded or identified until Super Bowl Sunday, and Hyundai will reserve at least two “Snap Out of It” ads to premier in the Big Game.

“Over the years the Super Bowl has provided a great avenue for us to reach a significant audience, and this year we are expanding that reach by jumpstarting the campaign two weeks early during the AFC Championship game,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.  “Having a fully integrated campaign leading up to the Big Game next month will allow us to build a story that makes a dramatic statement befitting a break-through car like the all-new Elantra, which gives consumers license to expect more from the compact segment.”

This year marks Hyundai’s fourth consecutive as a Super Bowl advertiser, with three in-game ads planned for Super Bowl Sunday, though this is the first time Hyundai has tied its “Big Game” strategy to a program beginning during the divisional championships.

The 2011 Elantra sets the bar in the compact sedan category offering modern design, outstanding fuel economy, loads of comfort and convenience features at a low starting price of $14,830. Powered by an all-new 1.8-liter “Nu” engine, the fifth generation Elantra boasts best-in-class standard fuel economy of 40 mpg highway. Elantra also continues to lead the industry in standard advanced safety technologies including a new Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system to optimally manage Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Even with game-changing performance and safety features, the Elantra does not scrimp on design. It offers a “class-above” mid-size car interior volume and mirrors the fluidic sculpture design of its award winning sibling, the all-new Sonata.

It looks nice, and the sheep are a nice touch, lol I am one of the few people that are not sheep, I have no loyalty to brands or what CR tells us, I take it with a grain of salt, I go by the not so accurate EPA and NHTSA, I take form a slight opinion from many auto journalists, Jeromy Clarkson is the man to me, he is one of the few that can tell it like it is and still have a job the next day, this Elantra looks great, I wonder how it stacks up to the Cruize and the Civic?

I like how most of the cars that the sheep are in are Corolla's ! (:

Joe after about a year you are just figuring this out? Hell you can tell by writing styles and how many negative and positive votes for particular auto brands that there are multiple accounts, sorry to say but it is choking any intelligent conversations down with pure biased ignorance.

actually I was just wondering if there was a reason other than the fact that they like to troll.

Couldn't have said it any better. The fact that those Corolla models are from the 80's is reason enough for me to go check out the new Corolla models.

no choice but to agree here, and to add Hyundai makes one or two ok cars and people think that they are the next Toyota or something. They still have years to earn my respect.

I will happily call you a sheep and many other unflattering names I give to each and every limp-wristed, slow-driving, weak-minded, timid toyota driver I come across. The corolla is an absolute JOKE, so GD boring I literally cant tell you what one looks like. Much like the Sonata taking down the camry, the Elantra slaughters the corolla without breaking a sweat.

There isnt one tangible advantage the corolla has over the Elantra, so for each one bought over an Elantra, it's sheepery; the mindless ignorant lemmings paying for a name and nothing else. It's probably just as well, though; Hyundai can't keep up with demand right now so it's just as well that you sheep keep flocking to toyota dealers.

Im certainly not in the market for a small, economy minded car, but if I were, I would walk or take the bus for however long it took for my Elantra to arrive, before I would even be a PASSENGER in a corolla.

This does work well two-fold: one for attacking the competitors, and two for asking owners of old Hyundais to spend money on new ones!

I think the Ad campaign is genius as it makes good fun of the status quo while making people re-think their idea of what a compact car should be.

I like it, however it is VERY similar to Mazda's new ad campaign for the Mazda3.

A friend of mine just rented a Hyundi around New York and it broke down, the linkage broke for the tranny, the gear shift, he ended up walking hours back to his Hotel, I am not convinced that quality is here yet, then again it could be an isolated incident? Then again it could have had sudden acceleration, lol

Busted transmission. Hmmm, where have I heard that before. Which company was it with cars damn near killing people when the tranny went out suddenly and without warning.....

OH! Thats right, it was 'unbreakable' and 'almighty' honda/acura. But people are forgiven if they werent aware of that, since they did their best to keep it quiet.

First off: it's a rental car. We all know how those things get treated. I'm not surprised the transmission gave out.

Second: my Mazda's transmission fell apart too - and after only 60K miles -but you don't hear people questioning Mazda's quality.

Well, it was a rental car and you know the hell they go through lol

It wasn't the tranny, it was the gear shifter that fell apart, it couldn't be put into gear, maybe an isolated incident? But it still happened, also it was a new vehicle, it should be able to take a bit of abuse without falling apart.
