2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster Spy Photos

Just over a month ago we brought you spy shots of the much anticipated Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and now the spy photographers are at it again with another round.

The sister model to the SLS AMG Gullwing is in its final stages of development and looks to be getting in a bit of testing before September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. While still covered slightly by camouflage, the roadster’s most notable feature,the retractable canvas roof, is clearly visible.

The new Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster will be propelled by and AMG 6.3 liter V8 Engine with an output of 420 kW (571 PS / 563 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. The new roadster will top out at 309 km/h (192 mph) and sprint 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds.

Seriously? This is a supercar. Retractable hardtops are far heavier than their cloth counterpats. Weight is the enemy of performance.

SLR is limited edition and will be phased out, does not count as a regular volume model...
