Analysts raise doubts on Chevy Volt’s production numbers
General Motors remains confident that there is strong demand for the Chevy Volt and it has been announcing plans to raise production numbers but TrueCar analysts say that it may be too optimistic. The car benefits from the massive tax incentives to make the $41,000 entry price more appealing to consumers. Last week, GM CEO Dan Akerson said that he aims to sell 25,000 Volts in 2011, and 120,000 units in 2012 – which is double the figure that was cited originally.

120,000 volts in 2012? I find that hard to believe, unless they are waiting to introduce a $25,000 entry level version.

hard for me to believe as well but as an insider i know of some production tweaks that are being implemented to lower the cost of the volt. how low remains to be seen.

If the Obama Administration gets it way and increases the Gov incentives to $7,500.00 per "electric" car, it will cost taxpayers $187,500,000.00 if GM can sell 25,000 Volts. With that said I and many others have had to help those that made bad decissions in home loans and now I also have to help pay for someone elses car?

If that $7,500 rebate is for a purely electric vehicle, no Volts or other hybrids, I'm ok with it for a few years. If our government can give money to other nations and evil corporations, why not give the American consumer a little relief. I do think the subsidy for Hybrid vehicles should be cancelled.
