Do we really need a DIESEL Car of the Year?
OK, we get it. Diesels aren't smelly and noisy anymore (and some of them come with 425 pound-feet of torque). In fact today a study coming out of Carnegie Mellon showed that may be a better value overall than hybrids. So why do we need a Diesel Car of the Year? Maybe if the winner of the 2011 Car of the Year is exciting enough, it will vanquish the last remnants of the poor impression they still have about the diesel. And we get to vote on who wins so ...

We should not have a separate category for Diesel car of the year. May the best car win. However, there should be no reason why the current Diesel cars can't win. They perform excellent, lots of torque and great gas millage.
However, the Diesel engine sound can get louder with age and without proper maintenance.
