RUMOR: 2012 Honda Civic To Get NEW Powerplant
To say that the 2012 Honda Civic's appearance at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show was vague would be a gross understatement. There was basically no information on the cars brought to the show.

But according to Carscoop, the forum users at Temple of VTEC have an inside source that's claiming a motor similar to the Acura TSX will be slotted under the Civic Si's hood. Speculation hints the motor will be a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces over 200 horsepower and gobs more of torque.

Earlier this month,
Honda unveiled the Civic Si Concept coupe and Civic Concept sedan at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, signaling that the ninth generation 2012 Civic will follow soon, to be precise, this spring. However, the official press bits weren’t exactly what you’d call detailed, leaving lots of aspects, including the engine lineup, to our imagination.

Today, the Honda-obsessed team at the Temple of VTEC forums claim to have solved part of this mystery thanks some inside sources that told them a 2.4-liter gasoline engine, very similar to the
Acura TSX’s powerplant, will make its way into the new Civic Si...

A little too late, the torque currently is pathetic, although I like my 2007 civic, A friend of my cousins just got the new chevy cruise, it has an incredible interior and way better engine than the Honda, did I mention better fuel economy and more torque, Honda should look into the new direct injection engines, Like it or not Chev is getting ahead, and I own and like Honda, could I get any more unbiased?

My 2 pesos

Make 200hp standard across the board, 250 on the SI, make it look like the CR-Z, keep or raise MPG from 25/36 to say 28/38...and see what happens.

The 140HP isn't so bad, it's the low torque that kills both the SI and the standard Civic.

So add 60hp (40% increase) and increase fuel economy by 2mpg. no problem. Oh and why don't you ask them to lower the price too?

Err wouldn't it be easier to just fettle their 2L engine and add a turbo? More torque and even less emissions than this 2.4L...

It's only a Civic. A turbo would put it outside the normal price range.
