A Little Too Soon To Draw Conclusions OR Is The Volt REALLY Cleaning The Leaf's Clock?

A Little Too Soon To Draw Conclusions OR Is The Volt REALLY Cleaning The Leaf's Clock?
And there they go! The electric car war has become official as production of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt and 2011 Nissan Leaf started in November. Now that sales are getting registered, you'll start to see some comparisons in terms of sales and articles that say "X is stomping out Y!"

In reality, I think it's a bit too early to come to any conclusion; however, it will be interesting to see who overtakes who in the electric car race at the end of 2011. Until then, I think we'll hold our horses before comparing.

In January, General Motors sold 321 Chevrolet Volt cars. Meanwhile, Nissan, its fiercest electric car competitor, has sold just 87 Leaf cars in the U.S.

Both cars went into production at the end of November...

...It will be impossible to gauge consumer acceptance of either car until at least later this year, said Jesse Toprak, a sales analyst with the automotive Web site Truecar.com

"From a numbers perspective, we've got to wait until at least six months into full production," Toprak said...

The leaf is very very limited as an everyday driver will the Volt can handle double duty as an electric car for short trips or a hybrid for longer trips. The leaf in it's current state is a great car but could never be used as ones only car.

Yes but the Leaf would be great for saving money commuting, which is my definition of "everyday driver". Not just gas but I expect maintainance would be tiny.

an everyday car is practical and convenient searching a an outlet to plug in a dying electric car is hardly piratical the Volt is an easy win here. Like i said 3 weeks ago there is a cheaper version on the horizon and it is so that will definitely increase sales.

Too early still, but with all of the hype I expected both to have a better start.

Availability was limited.I tried to test drive the volt many times before flying out of country.I am back sportsbike80 and Balckdynamite. I can compromise on handling etc to go electric but I am not driving an ugly car so it will have to be the Volt.
