Is THIS The 2012 Honda Civic?
Fresh off the newswires are these photographs of what could very well be the 2012 Honda Civic. Now although Honda has claimed that the 2012 Civic would be a totally new product, that may be in question if the vehicle looks like this.
Honestly, until I got until the rear-end of the car I thought this was just a 2011. That's because the headlights appear to be the same as the current generation Civic.
But when you do wrap around to the back of this Civic, there is a clearly different butt and side profile. Note the rear taillights, C-pillar and chiseled line in the side doors.
If this is the 2012 Honda Civic, are you going to stand behind this "new" product or are you going to be disappointed?

Ahhh no!! Was hoping more of the concepts looks would come through. Maybe those will be reserved for the facelift.

Maybe they are doing a refresh of the current Civic instead of a redesign and the redesign is coming next year or something.
This is horrid if it's the new Civic. With such a similar front-end they are really shooting themselves in the foot if they think they can maintain high sales with a car that looks almost identical to the current model.
Sorry Honda, you missed the boat again.

It is not so obvious, Blake.
I do think this is the 2012 Civic. If you look at the Civic Concept, you can see the grill on the concept and on the car pictures above are exactly alike. The 2011 civic grill is a lot different.
In addition, the high-beam projection (on the inside of the lamps) are complete circles on the 2011 and not on the car pictured.
Unfortunately, i think this is in fact the 2012 Civic. Most of the differences will come from the side profile and rear, as the front looks very similar to the concept just shown.
check out the following link (from honda.com) to see a front shot of the current Civic. Not the same car:

Wow, could easily just be a refreshening of the current Civic. Way to stay conservative Honda. Can't believe I'm saying this but I actually like the Focus and even the Cruze more than this.

This is definitely the current (2011) JDM Civic. Look at the transporter's license plate, this is in Japan. Do you really think Honda is transporting the next generation Civic in open car carriers? This is just a current Civic on the way to a dealer. The truck is also driving on the left side, with oncoming traffic on the right side, another clue that this is in Japan. Can we turn down the Honda hate until we see the real thing?

Sure, maybe I'm wrong and shouldn't have said definitely. Did you notice the Fit and Insight on the same transporter? These look like cars on the way to dealers in Japan. Do you know if the new Civic is already on sale in Japan? If this is the new Civic I'll wait until I see better pix, or see it in person to decide if I like it.

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra will eat this thing for lunch. The Design team at Honda is an unmitigated disaster. Styling disasters such as the Odyssey, Element, Pilot and Ridgeline etc

Reviews already have mentioned while the Elantra is a looker, it still has something to be desired in the engine refinement and ride department - Car and Driver got a middling 26 mpg in mixed driving - where is the 40 mpg on all trims Hyundai!?!
The new Civic is an evolution of the ground breaking 8th gen Civic - do you see BMW's 3-series making giant changes or minor refinements? - Same goes for the Civic, it's a very important car for Honda - If it aint broke don't fix it!!! All they have to do is keep just ahead of the competition - we'll see very soon if it can in fact do just that

Wait how did the 3er become part of the conversation. That said if you don't the the E46 and E90 are very different then you don't know BMW.

It really looks like a facelift, not a whole new model. The design is not bad, it's just disappointing. If it's a whole new model, at least I hope they have fixed the incredibly tiny trunk of the 2011 model.

Yes this is surely the all new 2012 Honda Civic sedan. Hope this is the US version and the Europe version gets better fascia and tail lights.

""Can you imagine if BMW, Mercedes, or Audi dared to redesign a new car and it look just like the car it replaced.
Oh the horror.""
That's exactly what Audi and BMW (lesser extent) do expecially their A3/A4's

I still think it looks like a 2011 Civic and a mid-2000s Camry mated.
