BMW does it right and ups the bar for included services

BMW will provide four years of service to its BMW Assist emergency service on all vehicles sold in North America beginning with 2007 models at no extra charge.

They have to because their cars are such a, "piece 'o' crap".

99' Lexus GS 400 175,000 miles no problems and never been in the shop!! let's see a BMW do that.

Just a thought. Honestly BMW is probably doing this to help attract more people to by their cars. There are a lot of people that don't go out and get a luxury car b/c of the very expensive service they require. If a company says they will pay for almost everything for 4 years....heck yea I'm going to think about spending a little more if I don't have to worry about paying a boat load of money for service.

And no I am not saying that BMW is just doing this so people will buy their cars. They want people to realize how finely built their cars are. If you make a superb car, and know that from the front to the back it is a solid and strong car....why not pick up the tab on the service?

You make no sense at all. Deceptive? Maybe you should look at the way you drive, I never had a problem with mine, granted it wasn't an xi model. The tires do wear quickly, as with any BMW model, if they are getting worn out in 5-6k the problem lies a little deeper than the quality of tire, those are expensive tires and are excellant quality.

I knew this morning I would get a reaction to the comment I made. I don't hate BMW, I actually love the 5 series, that is a good lookin' car. But as I said this morning my Lexus has had no problems and I want to point out that yesterday I heard on Fox News that Lexus and Toyota (Oh my I mentioned that evil name Toyota) took 11 of the top 19 spots on the a recent quality survey.

My first car when I was 16 was a Yellow 1981 Toyota Tercel. When I got rid of it it had 572,000 miles on it. I also had an 84' subaru with 483,000 miles on it. This is why I like Japanese cars they last forvever!!! I will drive my 99' Lexus until the doors fall off. I do not need a new car in the driveway every few years. I put as little money as possible into depreciable assets.

So don't hate on me for liking my Lexus and ripping on BMW (even though I like them) for having quality issues. I have a friend that bought a 7 series when the latest model came out and within 9 months it had been in the shop over 90 times not to mention that he had to call Roadside assitance for over a third of those because the car was such a piece of crap!!! Look at quality surveys, your car may have been pretty good but yours might be one of the good ones based on all of the bad ones they produced.

I think BMW is onto a winner. It is doing something to lower the cost and risks of ownership without using rebates.

Meanwhile M-B has taken a different route and is using large incentives.

Both tactics can increase sales, but the BMW approach is less likely to hurt residuals than offering large rebates for customers and/or dealers.

with this maintenance program, I think BMW is just trying to ensure that it continues to beat M-B in monthly US sales without having to offer as many different models as M-B does.

BMW is brilliant for continuing to offer included maintenance. This gets customers back into dealer's showrooms more often, so dealers have an opportunity to show customers new models. My BMW dealer gives only BMW service loaners, which allows service customers to test drive new BMW models overnight. Last week, my X5 was in for service, and I was given a 2006 X3 loaner. After my wife drove in it, she said that when it was time to get rid of her ML500, she would like to look at the X3. Further, her ML500 has never been back to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. We go to a local shop for oil changes on the ML.
