WHAT General Motors Brand Would You Like To See This Opel As?
Although a one-time General Motors executive once said that badge reengineering would no longer happen, it did and it continues to this day. Not that I am complaining as I dig the Opel Insig...er...I mean Buick Regal.

Taking that into consideration, our friends at The Truth About Cars have posted up images of a new Opel city car, known as the Allegra, and we're curious if you think we'll get a crack at it in the U.S.

TTAC seems to think it could be a possible Buick ambassador but I think otherwise just because the new Sonic is on its way.

Then again, I could be wrong.

What say you, Spies?

Here comes the Opel Allegra, the forthcoming European market city car, and (CARB willing) maybe even Buick’s next CAFE-buster. A Buick on a shortened Opel Corsa platform is madness, you say? Let’s see your old Roadmaster get 35.5 MPG combined…

I would like to see this Opel as an Opel. GM should just bring Opel over and stop platform sharing as much between it's brands.

Good point UAW since small cars are in this is poised to do well in NA also GM a heavy seller of trucks needs a great small car to balance truck MPG to reach the cafe standard.

Opel in the U.S. would be nice. We could have the Solstice again. I mean the Opel GT.

Opel GT. Yesss! Also, I agree with uaw_lax on the idea that it should be sold as an Opel. Like it or not, GM has created a lot of ill will with its poor brand management and and lackluster products, especially in the c-segment class and below. If GM needs a world car, might as well use a world brand. Chevy should concentrate on mid-range, value-oriented cars, make Corvette its own brand, and capitalize on Opel's "foreign" image to appeal to those who equate small American cars with shite.

Chevy has the Aveo/Sonic, so perhaps a Buick, but I doubt it.

Opel has no equity in the US. No point. Why not just introduce Vauxhaul?

We probably won't get the Allegra, but we are very likely to get the Excelle XT hatchback to replace the Saturn Astra. It will probably be called the Verano XT, or even Astra.
The Sonic will probably be GM's smallest car for the US market. So far Ford hasn't even dared to go smaller than the Fiesta, so GM probably won't try either.
When the Scion iQ goes on sale though, you can bet Honda will take action. Can anyone say Honda City?

Sell it as an Opel (or REALLY Muddy the Waters and call it a Holden) but sell it thru Buick (if there isn't a 4dr version...Don't Bother)
