CHICAGO AUTO SHOW: Mazda To Unveil A Special Edition MX-5 For U.S. Market
Although we just posted the whole Chris Harris debacle about the Mazda MX-5, if you're in a celebratory mood for Mazda, since it just produced the 900,000th MX-5, then you'll want to take a look at what's due at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show.

Bound for the U.S. market is a legitimate limited-edition MX-5 -- only 750 units will hit our shores. Starting at a price of $30,925 when properly equipped with a manual gearbox, this MX-5 will only be available in black and gray and is the fully-equipped, hard-top convertible variant.

Power comes from the MX-5's standard 167 horsepower, four-cylinder motor.

Earlier today, we told you about the Australian market Mazda MX-5 Special Edition featuring a sports suspension kit and some exclusive styling touches. Well, we now learn that the same model will be offered in the States in a limited run of 750 units, albeit at a much lower price as the U.S. version starts at $30,925 with a manual transmission, and $31,525 when equipped with the six-speed Sport AT automatic. That's compared to US$47,800 for the Aussie market model.

The Special Edition is based off of a fully-equipped Grand Touring model with the retractable hard top, and is available only in two new colors, Sparkling Black Mica or Dolphin Gray Mica. It rides on 17-inch Bright Finish aluminum alloy wheels...

A special edition that's truly not special. What a waste of time. New leather/stitching - really? Now if this were a Mazdaspeed MX-5...

They should try a stripped down "club-sport" version with suspension and yes, more HP. C'mon!

Ridiculous when they charge more just for a few cosmetic upgrades. UGH
