CHICAGO AUTO SHOW: Real Life Or Fantasy? Which Of These Two Vehicles Will Most Likely Shape Future Designs?
You notice a lot by scanning through our Chicago Auto Show Gallery. No doubt there are going to be plenty of hits and plenty of misses.  Some designs will stand the test of time and others will.... well look a bit dated.

While looking through the first images to come back from the show  I began to wonder, is it just me or is the new LF-A already looking a  bit dated?  Compare it to the Infiniti Essence Concept and you will see what I mean.  The essence is organic and free flowing where the LF-A is starting to look err a bit blocky.

Now don't get me wrong the LF-A is a hell of a car and yes I would die to have one in my garage (Yep I said that), but I can't but look at it and think vintage NSX.  Ultra cool but still not 100% the best looking design from all angles.

Let me toss in a few images here and let you see what I mean.

I realize the point is subjective, and one design is real life and the other is a styling fantasy, but I can't help and wonder it one design a glimpse to the future and the other is a glimpse to the past?

I know you will let me know!

I think the Essence is drop-dead gorgeous but the problem is that we're comparing a concept to a production car.

Agree with 222max. IMO LFA concept was better looking than Essence Concept but Lexus have made many aerodynamic improvements to the design of LFA Concept for production and better performance.
Similar is the case of new Ferrari 458, Mclaren MP4-12C...etc. Aerodynamic shapes over design. Function over form.

But still LFA looks great. A very aggressive looking Japanese Super Car.

Agreed. LFA is simply original while Essence starts from a retro form like that of C3 Corvette.

The Essence is seriously a jaw-dropping masterpiece.

While I like the Infiniti , it seems like every other year we get a concept that looks just like that.Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings but the LFA looked dated when it came out, but the noises it makes are simply awsome so I think we could give it a pass.

Between these two vehicles, the Infiniti Essence will have the most influential impact.

The LF-A is how I pictured a current Supra would look if Toyota had continued production.

The LF-A's intentions were never to be BEAUTIFUL. The car is a beastly performer and it's looks cater to that.

On the other hand, the Essence, albeit a BEAUTIFUL vehicle, is just a concept. Who's to say how watered down the production vehicle would be (if ever produced). Until then, however, there is no point in comparing the two, as it's comparing apples to oranges.
