Your Tax Dollars At Work? GM Decides To Give Salaried Workers Bonuses Of Up To 50%

General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC, which each received government-funded bailouts, may award some managers bonuses of as much as 50 percent of their salary, said four people familiar with the plans.

GM plans to pay bonuses to most managers equal to 15 percent to 20 percent of their annual salary and as high as 50 percent to less than 1 percent of its 26,000 U.S. salaried employees, said one of the people, who asked not to be named revealing internal plans. Bonuses for Chrysler’s 10,755 salaried workers will average about $10,000, with a small group getting as much as half of their salary, one of the people said.

Here's a big chunk of the formula...

Government bails out GM.

Restated...

Government gives tax-payer's income to GM, and
GM gives some of that to GM Execs as fat bonuses, and
GM gives some of that to GM workers as fat bonuses.

Restated...
Money was taken from your pocket, and given to someone else.

Kinda leave a bitter taste your mouth when it's spelled out in personal terms. Doesn't it?

Don't kid yourself, the government got that money by borrowing it from china, not from your tax dollars.

Joe: You got the point. The money of QE1, QE2 and the upcoming QE3 are mostly from China. The stupid chineses government keeps buying our debts and let our greedy enterprises to spend all of them without control.

The products of GM have improved quite a lot but the greediness of those GM people remain unchanged.

Love Obama or hate him, he had nothing to do with bail outs, he is just your salesman/Mascot, the Republicans would have done exactly the same thing! Then everyone would be bitching about the right... It's corporate America that calls the shots, Obama did do some health care reform so the insurance companies couldn't continue taking advantage of you all, and ironically half of America is mad at him, I will be de boosted by angry ill informed anti Obamma people, lol I don't like either party, they both are corrupt, the mascots are innocent, they do what they are told or else, just think of JFK, yea, so someone like Ron Paul would have been Americas best bet.

It's for this very reason, GM can not sustain it's success. The Asians will continue to eat their lunch as Gm will not re-invest in the next wave of product it needs.
I don't really care. I haven't owned a Gm in a long,long time, and I have no desire to.

nonofyobus. By the sound and text of your comment your not following what is going on at Chrysler. First off back in the Iacocca days the Government never bailed out Chrysler. The money loaned to Chrysler was from private sources the U.S. Government only guaranteed the loans. Chrysler paid back the money with all interest 7 years early. Currently Chryslers situation was put upon them by Diamler. Sergio M has taken the pieces that were left by Diamler and Cerebus and has put together a line up that is one of the most competitive on the market meeting CAFE requirements. Did you know the Dodge HD Cummins gets 20 mpg in a 3/4 and one ton truck and does not need urea until 2015? no one else can say that. Did you know the full sized Chrysler and Charger will get almost 30mpg with the new 305 hp Pen V6 and Zf 8 speed and it not a hybrid, no one else can say that. This is just two examples of many. Chryslers current sales are higher than most. I highly doubt they are doomed with the vision Sergio has. It has been noted by Sergio that Fiat will purchase more of Chrysler soon and if you remember one of the requirements is the loans to the Gov have to be paid back in order for this to happen.

Keeping your employees happy is important, but lets hope that they re invested in new tech first, that would have been wiser, I must say that for a small car the Chev Cruze is one of the best in class, and it is Chev! Compare it to the Corola, then try and tell me that Toyota is better in class, if you do think the Toyota is better you are blind and should just admit it.

Don't know about "managers" but considering the average autoworker (union led labor) receives benefits and compensation of over $80,000 per year, this industry in general is overpaid for very little in skills.

$80,000. is middle class isn't it? And if they paid them min. wage would we give all the profits to the executives? Then who would buy the cars? Then we would have the extreme rich and very poor, then we would become South Africa where you don't stop at red lights, we would have flame throwers on the side of our cars for the uneducated poor people that want to rob us, a friend of mine is an architect and did a job somewhere in South Africa and he told me he was the only one in his group that wasn't robbed or car jacked, he did have an armed body guard, not the kind of world I want to live in. Chev is on the right track, I was never a fan of chev, but they are improving huge, and if they are making a profit great, the execs are the ones that take too much, I am not against the big shots making money but they should not get more than double the workers get, they should also work more as a team.

Is everyone on this blog own the company GM? Or are you jealous of there good wages? or are you all dreaming that you are that 1% that makes all the money in this world off of the corporations? I visited the States today, it was dreadfully boring, and I am not some nut that dislikes Americans , I love Americans! Some of my family are Americans, Its just that every restaurant is a chain! And strip malls everywhere, there was no quality or anything interesting, this is all because everything is corporate because it has to to be to be competitive, Canada is going that way unfortunately, America still has New York and San Francisco for nice restaurants and culture, and culture wouldn't exist if everyone was making $4 an hr, it would be a very dangerous country for the rich, guns...And I love guns, I own a handful of them, I would make a great American, lol And my American cousins must learn how to make beer, my wife insisted we bring home some of your beer, I warned her against it and now we have some very drab beer, and don't look at as Canadians for the best beer, the Belgium's make the best with the English behind them, Germany is in there if you like hoppy beer.

The last GM car I owned were a 1992 Saturn SL1 followed by a 1994 SL1. They were my 2nd and 3rd car when I was 19-22ish. The 1994 was one of my favorites despite not being the fastest or slickest. The original Saturns were a hell of a car. Too bad they got left behind and had nothing better to offer than an Ion and rebadged Opels.

1% of GM management will get near the 50% bonus, as usually the story is misleading. The reason being is to sidestep the cap on manger pay enforced by the government who currently owns only about 25% of GM today.

@ uaw_lax...Let's start a discussion on how the Obama administration, GM and the UAW screwed 21,000 DELPHI non UAW retirees out of their pensions when GM went bankrupt. Yet kept the UNION UAW Delphi retirees whole by topping off their pension funds??? My Wife is in the non union group and her pension was cut in half after 30 years along with being stripped of all insurance!!

so you say the UAW along with Obama set at the table to discuss how GM would not fund the employees of a entirely different company pension?

1. This happened before Obama took office.
2. The UAW makes no decisions as such.

No, I'm saying GM ran DELPHI into the ground, and when the bankrupt GM put the New Deal together with pressure from the Obama Administration they wanted certain assets back. Delphi was starting to make a profit on their own so the New GM wanted it back. The UAW topped off the union hourly retirees pension fund but screwed the non-union salaried retirees. If you want the whole story goggle delpi salaried retirees association or DRSA website who have filed a number of lawsuits and have been snubbed by the Obama Gang of thieves!
