Review: Pontiac G6 convertible hardtop

for some reason even with its resemblence of the new Solara lights, the G6's overall shape and dimension looks a lot better than the solara. Have you seen any of the G6 coupe around? It is quite a stunner considering it is an American product.

I feel that there is a trend in today's automotive industry esp for the states, the japanese family sedans looks more and more americanized. Bulkier in appearance, while the American's are having better overall forms and detailing. In exception of the Infiniti and Lexus, which their designs are way more european. So the only two polaris now are Europeansque or JapaneseAmericanesque. Where if you comapared to a decade ago, there is a strong distinction. I have recently been in a new Camry (base model), altho the center column design is quite nice, everythign around (esp the back) has a taurus feeling to it. I know a lot of people will disagree and fight the fact that Toyota has the best interiors etc etc... But if you compare material for material there is hardly a disinction between BASE American cars and BASE Japanese branded American built cars. (feeling of the material quality, fit and finish, the plastics, the buttons and the clothes). It is just my opinion, anyone can agree to or disagree to it and is totally fine.

Is it me, or do most American cars look older than they really are?

When similiar offerings from Europe offer LED rear-lights and an elegent high-grade interior, America still gives us puffy bumpers and lacklustre interior designs, not to mention acres of uninspiring grey plastic.

I agree that the Solara is bigger in size than the G6, but huu76's point is also valid, cuz there are more rigid lines on the G6 than the Solara, it look better proportioned, in ratio. Solara had more curves, esp the trunk lid and for 2007 they had added even more curves to the lighting arrangement which makes the car look more bulky. But i have seen ppl who had added a body kit and lowered the Solara and it looks amazing. But in production form I still think the G6 hasa better ratio.

As for the Camry compared to the other American cars, the dash design is by far better than the previous generation. buttons placement and arragements. but for the CE, quality wise is all plastic and very mono toned. Their plastics are also cheaper in quality when compared to 10 years ago, you can feel the different thickness of their plastic. the old 1993-1996 Camry had soem nice plastics where it is thicker in feelng and has come "grains". I am not sure if u have been into any new Buicks recently (since the camry raised their overall price range and Buick had decreased their prices significantly aroudn 20%) I choose to compare these 2 brands. The buick's interior is actually quite very well appointed. fit and finish is a lto better than I expected. It has moved away from the bulky bubblery look of the Pontiac (G6 included)l. Everything is quite tight, but the onyl draw back is their seat design and the plastic (fake leather wrapping the doors) which looks too simple. The 300C's interior in the front looks great, but the back is pretty much the same as the new camry (material etc) I also believed that the previous gen Camry had a bit better qualitied materials for the rear passengers and design. I was doign some car shopping with soem frds and came to this conclusion (tho we were looking at premium priced cars and fumbled upon these family sedans). Just take a look I am sure the the top model Camry's interior is very nice, but the price can also get u a G35 or the likes Even the new Es350 is only a few hundred more than the Top Camry. I woudl definately choose the ES over the camry. At least is built in Japan.
