SPIED: Range Rover Working On A Makeover?
Thanks to the latest spy shots, it looks like we can conclude that although Land Rover has been consistently updating the top-of-the-line Range Rover, it has something else in the works coming soon.

This chopped-about test hack is a prototype of the all-new Mk4 Range Rover, which is expected to be publicly unveiled in late 2012.

The new model — codenamed L405 — is based on Jaguar Land Rover’s new all-aluminium, bonded and riveted platform, which will also underpin the next-generation Range Rover Sport and the next Jaguar XJ...

A nice SUV, impressive that they are reducing so much weight... now all they have to do is make it reliable and one that has an off road package, and please don't try and tell me that this is an off road king, a desirable suv yes if you can afford to maintain it, but I wouldn't ever dream of throwing 35in tires on this and trimming those little fender wells, and there is no after market suspension companies to increase wheel travel, 8 inches isn't enough for off road, and yes this can splash through puddles... Just not a man's vehicle.

Land Rover's are as capable off road as they are luxury utility vehicles. Now "extreme" off roading is another story...

I always wondered the type of person that would want a raptor, I guess I finally figured it out....

BMWdriver, yes I am one of those people that would love to own a Raptor and a BMW, does that make me inferior? The majority of 4x4s are princesses and LR is no different, I do like the old defender, all it lacks is selectable lockers. Bottom line, I like performance, and that is what the Raptor represents, if you like less capable 4x4s like this better there is nothing wrong with not desiring performance if you don't go off road, but your statement is very elitist, but ironically it shows your ignorance on 4x4s, again, this LR would be a great suv.... just not off road oriented like they pretend it is, you believe all they tell you in advertising, its not all true.

"A Makeover?"

I'm surprised! I thought the powers that be were afraid to touch this vehicle.

Good points, truckman

Finally happy to see Tata Motors rid the Range Rover models of the horribly unreliable BMW platform/electronics. The next generation Range Rover looks to be a worthwhile successor.

Hope they don't exchange weight savings for off-road durability! The underpinnings of the Range Rover are only second to maybe a G-Wagen!

Are G-wagons good off road? All that I have heard is that they lack wheel travel, even though they have strong axles...They are also very heavy, I am a huge fan of the Unimog with incredible axle flex and off road ability beyond comprehension, too bad they don't sell them here in Canada, and sure you can get a used one. just picture this suv trying to drive over a deep rutted muddy road in a foot of mud, its not going to happen because it is more a sporty soccer moms car, and I am sure it performs like a sports car on the road, I would love to drive one, just not off road, just look at those low profile tires, the rims will become all scratched up very quickly if it were ever taken off road.

I've driven both G-Wagen and Range Rovers, and the G is the WORST RIDE EVER!!! Just bein totally honest.
