EXCLUSIVE REVIEW AND PHOTOS: Seduced On Valentines Day? Spies Heart The 2012 Audi A6

EXCLUSIVE REVIEW AND PHOTOS: Seduced On Valentines Day? Spies Heart The 2012 Audi A6
The Spies spent Valentines Day weekend in beautiful Sicily getting our first taste of the all new 2012 Audi A6.

And I can tell you it was one sweeet taste.

This is not an easy segment to compete in especially when you're facing the perpetually awarded BMW 5-Series and the popular selling Mercedes E-Class.

But from my short drive experience I can confidently share with you that the 2012 A6 is the best all around car.

When I first saw the original photos of the car, my initial reaction was that it was too similar of a design to the outgoing model.

I have learned in my years of being around cars that the first impression is NOT the most important.

Until you see the car in person, walkaround it, sit in it, and see it driving on the road, you really can't make a true judgement.

So after seeing it now at two auto shows and in Sicily I can honestly say that this Audi is the Armani suit of the three.

Tasteful, classic, modern, timeless and elegant are the right words to describe it.

And an Armani suit NEVER needs a complete makeover only fine enhancements.

And it REALLY shines in the evening.

The LEDs (front and rear) really make a statement while you're driving and when you make your entrance.

It's almost mezmerizing when you see the front end staring at you.

Truly beautiful.

It's like a siren seducing you to get you inside.

And once inside as everyone knows, Audi NEVER disappoints.

Inside it OWNS.

Material quality, color combos, ergonomics and leading edge tech features make you feel REALLY special.

When you get inside and behind the wheel, it's hard to say no to it.

And for bigger guys and gals you will fit more comfortably inside the A6 versus the 5-Series.

But how does it drive?

In the past, the A6 always felt heavy and not very nimble in the twisties.

Not on the 2012.

Audi shaved a TON of weight off the car.

So much so that even WITH Quattro, it weighs NO more than a rear wheel drive BMW.

So on mountain roads where I drove the new A6, dare I say it?

It drove like a BMW. (Can't wait to read the comments on this!)

But like a BMW with a more luxurious feeling suspension.

As great as a 5-Series is, the masses usually find the suspension and ride a little too harsh for their tastes.

Audi solves this dilemma.

I drove the 3.0 gasoline engine and the diesel.

I hope comes to the states because it would be my choice with a range of over an 800 kilometers per tank!

I still think the 5-Series have the better engines (definitely more power and get up and go) but on balance...exterior design, interior design and quality, drive and performance...TOTAL package...The 2012 Audi A6 is the car I would recommend to most people.

Agent 001 HEARTS the new Audi 'Light'.

And I know if you test drive it, you will agree and heart it too.

Enjoy the awesome photo gallery with over 600 photos of the 2012 Audi A6 and a beautiful photo tour of gorgeous and romantic Sicily.

Sicily is very special to me as my fathers side of the family was from Montemaggiore Belsito.

SOME of the scenery in the gallery was to die for. Literally!

Very nice car, but change the 80's shift knob.

Agreed. And the steering wheel and the jack o' lantern headlights too. But other than that it is gorgeous.

Wow.........great pics.

The new A6 definitely "pops". Just wish it came with a V8 option.........

Go kill yourself without a V8...Its a necessary option...Even better would be to make them a limited edition but no V8 is absurd!!

It looks gorgeous, and I would absolutely look at the diesel if it comes to the US. But why are they moving to these pop-up nav screens? There's useful information that can be displayed even when not using the nav, and personally I prefer the look of a screen smoothly integrated into the dash.

Check out the screen in the instrument cluster. It provides all the information the driver needs including navigation info. The pop-up screen is only necessary when programming functions, or for entertainment value when you want to impress the passengers.

That front end is beautiful. So is Audi ditching fog lamps? I see it has those sensors in place of where the fog lamps would be (a la A7/8)...

The fog lights are integrated into the headlight clusters. The added benefit is that they are within reach of the headlight washers.

@JustaCar: Thanks. Makes sense! Looks like Audi is on the way to being the only brand with every model to offer (or have standard) full exterior LED lighting. The A4 will probably get the treatment next redesign.

Well put 001. " The Armani suit of the segment" pretty much sums it up. Those who like double breasted suits with wide lapels will have to look elsewhere.

lol wow talk about bias talk "an armani suit never needs makeovers" name a suit that needs "makeovers" pretell that even makes sense. The bottom line this looks like the last one, with a new interior or like a bigger A4 with a different roofline. Im all for updating a classic, but an update on aged tired design is more like the guy that refuses to let go of his bell bottoms and dated hair cut than someone who wears contemporary Armani suits.

Design is nice but rear could have better especially 'number plate area' is very empty looking. Should have more lines there.

Audi needs to do something about the A6's C-pillar design. The A6's C-Pillar design always makes the A6s look odd and doofy. This car isn't any different. Change it Audi. It isn't a redeeming quality and not worth carrying over from generation to generation.

Love the new look (esp the front, looks gorgeous yet aggressive). hate the new audi rears though, looks identical and bland.

audi's on a roll cutting down weight. bmw needs to take a cue from them in this department; can't wait to drive this one.

not a fan of the interior layout, and most reviews I have read on this car say its major short coming is the steering..

"An abundance of electromechanical power assistance for the car’s steering contributes to the A6’s easy-to-drive character. However, it also neatly encapsulates the car’s major shortcoming. An almost total lack of feedback and natural road feel through the steering wheel rim seems to symbolise a wider failure, throughout this entry-level Audi, to make the driver feel at all involved in the driving experience, or connected to the road."-Autocar.com

The next sentence after that paragraph was

"While, by contrast, a BMW 520d has a surprisingly agile dynamic character and fairly deep reserves of grip and body composure when you stretch it, the A6 is hiding absolutely nothing. It’s an almost entirely one-dimensional device."

Oh, sorry. Just read. Sicily. And to make me feel even dumber I was just there and I stood in front of the main government building that's in the photo.
