SPIED: What Car Is Roaming Around SoCal?

SPIED: What Car Is Roaming Around SoCal?
Thanks to one of our eagle-eyed spy photographers, Fred Khaz, we've got our hands on a new set of spy images. The problem is, well, we don't know what the hell this car is.

Although this isn't the first time we've seen this particular vehicle in real-life roaming around SoCal, it is still buttoned up pretty tight. From the overall impression, I am going to go with Kia.

Do you have any clue as to what this could be?

Place your bets down below.

Looks like a Hyundai/Kia product. If not that possibly a Ford or a Fiat/Chrysler product.

That first image looks like a Peugeot from a few years back. That being said, it causes me to look at Kia/Hyundai.

The devil in me wants to say it's a Toyota of some kind with a FT-86 type front-end grafted onto it. The FT-86 maybe Toyota's premiere example of its new design language.

I say it is a C max, but I totally wonder why they disguised it when they have it sitting out clear as day at the auto show.

It's Hyundai/Kia, you can tell by the window line and wheels. If you look at some Hyundai prototypes, they use very similar wheels.

This is probably the Ford C-Max competitor, the Portico. If you remember, the Portico was well into the testing stages before the car was axed when minivans went off the market. I had gotten confirmation in 2009 about it.

Now that the segment is returning with smaller MPV's,Hyundai is now making a move. The design from the original car is way outdated, so you can see some of the styling you find on the Sonata and the Elantra.

Now I'm not saying it is a Hyundai, it could also be a Kia.

Also note where the badge is hidden and it's size.

Note that the camoflauge is styled like on previous Hyundai/Kia test vehicles.

Also note that the way the lights are covered is the similar
way it was with the Azera and Elantra.

Looks like it could be a Hyundai/Kia since the lights seem to be stretching back to the windshield. I will guess that it's the new Elantra Touring model, since the 2011 model is still based on the old Elantra platform. If this gets anywhere close to 40MPG like the base Elantra, they could have another huge hit on their hands. They could add direct-injection, an 8-speed transmission (like in the revised Genesis sedans) and possibly the 2.0T engine from the Sonata to handle the extra weight. Just de-tune it a bit for the extra MPG.

Also just noticed the turn signal repeaters on the side mirrors. Those are in the Elantra Limited models already.

I bet this is the Portico.

It is too tall to be the i40, maybe an i60?
