A Porsche That Gets Nearly 40 MPG AND It's Already Out!

A Porsche That Gets Nearly 40 MPG AND It's Already Out!
Since the creation of hybrid vehicles, there has been a bitter debate raging on in the automotive community. Enthusiasts generally speaking hate them and the environmentally-concerned buyers adore them. And why not? Most achieve stellar MPG figures and that crowd of buyers aren't looking to buy a Porsche anyway.

But, wait a second. What does Porsche have to do with this anyway as you can't get good gas mileage anyhow?

Wrong!

A lot of people tend to forget, it depends on how you drive the car rather than what is under the hood a lot of the time. For example, if you drive a Toyota Prius at 100 mph, like Al Gore's son, you probably won't achieve a lofty MPG figure.

Conversely, if you manage to drive like Agent 001 in his Porsche 911 -- see the cover shot below -- you too can see numbers nearing 40 MPG.

With that said, what's more important: MORE alternative fuel vehicles with better MPG or training drivers how to drive properly in order to CONSERVE fuel in their current daily drivers?

No, it really is possible but again what do you have to sacrifice in order to achieve this figure, and more importantly do you really want to do it in a 911?

Real world mileage on my 911 S PDK is 21 city 28 hwy, always with sport plus turned on.

If I turn off Sport Plus and drive conservatively, I can easily get 23 city 32-34 hwy.

Also, I get almost 100 miles more per tank with my PDK 911s than I did with my last one a 2006 911s 6-Speed. PDK is amazing.

DFI and PDK are a pretty amazing combination. No pumping losses, no slushbox, and always in the right gear,

I love Porsches because they are made the right way. Solid reliability, solid sport performance and handling, and of course ... solid at the pump.

Anyone wonder why they finished 1st in ownership satisfaction ?

Sure you want to drive properly, but we still need to get off fossil fuel. Anything to eliminate the middle east's bargaining chip; oil.

Joe, I tested the Camaro and it is impossible to even get mid 30's driving like a granny.

Driving this 911 the way it should be, in sport plus always, etc and getting 28mpg hwy is simply amazing.

My dad used to have a 1987 Cadillac Fleetwood Delegance. Drive that car like a Korean grandmother and it'll give you 30 MPG

hey camaro guy, drive a 911 , ie. close the door, shift the gear box, turn the wheel, hit the brakes; then you'll understand why its amazing.
