PROOF A Sucker Is Born Every Minute: Some Chevy Dealers Marking Up First Volt Models To $65,500
General Motors is trying to prevent dealer markups on the Volt, but as GM’s Tony DiSalle told Ward’s Auto, “there isn’t a mechanism to prevent that from happening.”

Currently, the Buy It Now listing from the dealer in Michigan is priced at $46,923, while the California dealer has Volts starting at $47,700 for the Buy It Now price. Look beyond eBay and you might find prices even higher. A dealer in North Carolina says it bought a Volt from a Maryland dealer and is now listing the car at $49,000. If that’s not high enough, a dealer in Florida has a Volt that’s listed at $65,590.

I believe the Civic GX is targeted to fleets.

That is insane, no one is going to pay that much for a Volt, at the normal price, it is still too high!

Chevy loses money on EVERY Volt sold. Ironically at this $65k price level, GM would be breaking even or making a slight profit.

As I mentionned yesterday, a local dealer has one for 61K ... about 45K more than a Prius

This car is a failure!! Only idiots will buy it. Paying $41k base price for a car that goes 40 miles on battery then takes it 6-8 hours charge on a 220 volt and 10+ hours on regular 120 volt that MOST people have in their homes, is a none sense!! This is a total failed technology!

Also, lets not talk about its build quality and reliability as after all it's just a GM.

If I was into buying a small car I would get me a simple Civic/Corolla/VW etc...

Just ask yourself, how many years will it take this car to compensate for its high price? Don't forget to count your electricity bill for charging it.

Only, AND ONLY, the ignorant (meaning not knowing) will pay 65K for a Volt. 41K or so with the tax credit equals an early 30K sedan.

Are these "newbies" on this site? I could have sworn this discussion has been had before...

I couldnt imagine being able to buy a used 2006 911 Carrera S just to be in a Volt for 65K. Id buy the Porsche for fun and take the bus to work during the week.
