VW Reviewer Says Chevy Cruze Better Than New Jetta. Is He Right Or Off His Rocker?

VW Reviewer Says Chevy Cruze Better Than New Jetta. Is He Right Or Off His Rocker?
If you ever told me that I would legitimately be writing a review where I was so convinced that the replacement for the old Chevy Cobalt was a clearly superior product to an all-new VW Jetta, I would have laughed right in your face.

My West Coast, California native preconceptions always had me favor the imported brands and I would never have allowed myself to believe that Chevy could build not only an excellent compact economy sedan but that it would also be teaching VW a thing or two about how to design a car interior.

You are correct...it is built with Mexican labor. The Jetta is built in Mexico. Or, if you have a 2.0T engine,in a VW, Hungarian labor. Or, if you have the six speed auto,in a VW, Japanese labor...yep, a Japanese transmission in a VW who would have thought?

"The UAW didn't kill a dog, it killed Detroit!"...

.......and is now trying to kill America.... Heres a simple idea... if you don't like your job in an automotive factory.. then quit & go work somewhere else... OH.. but... not too many places allow you to drink and do pot on your lunch break and pay you 3 times the average factory worker!!

billfrombuckhead,
I Disagree in a way. UAW members use the Union as a tool to benefit themselves and abuse the system. They want everything for free, retirement plans for which they PAY ZERO for, medical benefits, pension plans... far better than any educated professional at a higher level job!!! and yet they COMPLAIN that they are asked to contribute more!!!

I'm all for buying American, but I will NEVER be in support of this mentality. Not to mention the highway robbery (bailout) that GM forced upon us the taxpayers, and now claiming that they have paid their debt!!! Did they forget to mention to the public that the Gov gave them over $20B and only made them pay ~$8B of it? yet they never clarified that in their advertisement???

I'll take two Jettas please, fully-loaded, one in Red and one in Blue.

Note: the nationalistic mentality of many reflected in buying American-only has over the years only weakened Detroit because they have had no incentive to draw in buyers, they don't see the competition because their customer base will keep on buying whatever they spit out the production line. Consequently, crappy products have been the rule. I say that people should pressure Detroit into making better cars, by simply buying what is currently the best in the open market, even if it is imported. America needs to be able to compete with Germany by creating its own image, not by imitating. I'm tired of the "tested in Germany" or "engineered in Germany" labels that some US (and Japanese)manufacturers use as claimers. Shame on them. It only reinforces how good germans are at what they do.

It's clear that this guy is in love with the Cruze. I think that slanted his view against the Jetta. Saying that it's clear that the cheap plastic trim does this Jetta no favors. I disagree with the beam axle as the culprit for the soft handling.Previous Jetta's including the 80's and 90's JLI had this beam axle. They had great handling. The problem is in the suspension tuning. VW has gone after the Corolla as it's bogie. Not a smart move in my opinion. There is talk of offering the Euro Jetta in 2014. Lets hope that the GLI version is up to snuff.

amazing how a blog based on two cars turned into a blog about labor workers and bs....drive both cars and decide for yourself....The Cruze is quiet amazing for a chevy product, cool design, feels solid and offers all the technology you would need in a entry lvl sedan and more...the VW of course is a great car as well..but give chevy a chance all u Natzi fans...

ythis entire site is a republican backdrop for an attack on American labor. clearly Unions work for BMW, and BMW makes a killing. Clearly Germany has free health care and people are happy.

C'mon, a Chevy dealership ad featuring a picture of a Cruze in an article about a a comparo? At least make an effort to appear journalistic.
