Honda Outs 2012 Civic With A Myrid Of Engine Choices
Featuring the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Civic is designed to even better meet the diverse needs of the compact-vehicle buyer when it launches this spring. The entire redesigned ninth-generation Civic lineup will become more fuel efficient with two models – the all-new Civic HF and the Civic Hybrid – each delivering fuel economy estimates of more than 40 mpg on the highway.

Built on the tradition of Honda fuel efficiency, the economical Civic HF model will be the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup when it launches this spring. Equipped with a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, the Civic HF is targeted to earn EPA-estimated fuel economy1 of 41 mpg on the highway. The 2012 Civic Hybrid, which will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, is expected to achieve an EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel economy1 of 45 mpg, an improvement of 4 mpg compared to the current Civic Hybrid. Both the Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models will be equipped with aerodynamic components for improved efficiency and Honda ECO Assist™ technology, an innovation that can enhance efficient vehicle operation while providing feedback to promote more efficient individual driving styles.

"The Civic is the only model in the industry that can deliver on all fronts – fuel economy, sporty performance, smart packaging, alternative fuel and long-term value," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co.,Inc. "For the ninth-generation Civic, we are emphasizing improved fuel economy across the board, from the hybrid sedan to the sporty Si model."

In addition to the Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models, the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic GX Natural Gas models are also estimated to achieve improved fuel economy compared to the current models. The Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy2 of 39 mpg on the highway, an improvement of 3 mpg when compared to the current model. The Civic Natural Gas vehicle is anticipated to earn a 7 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the current model. The Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic Natural Gas models will all be equipped with the Honda ECO Assist technology.

Along with improved fuel economy, the new Civic lineup also delivers more performance, particularly with the Civic Si. The Civic Si sedan and coupe models will be equipped with a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter engine as well as a new 6-speed manual transmission. The new engine is anticipated to deliver 200 horsepower with 170 ft-lb of torque. Even with the larger engine and a 22 percent increase in torque, Civic Si is targeted to achieve an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy1 of 31 mpg; an increase of 2 mpg when compared to the current model.

The 2012 Civic lineup includes a sedan and a coupe with conventional gasoline models, a new "HF" high fuel economy version, two sporty "Si" performance versions, along with one hybrid and a natural gas alternative-fuel variant.
Additional information on the new 2012 Civic will be announced closer to the on-sale date. For more information on the current Civic and other Honda models, please visit www.hondanews.com.

For lug nuts or engine output?

I'd take VW Jetta bland over this any day.

actually, seeing more and more Jetta's on the road and I have to admit, the rear and the profile are growing on me....still not sold on the front....but it's a conservative and cohesive deisng.

this CIVIC is definitely messy.

Why unless you need the size? If I were looking for a fast commuter with great handling(heritage), great gas mileage and stealthy styling, I would go with the Civic Si sedan any day!

Yuck, how sad for Honda. They delayed the car to make it better and this is it?

Disgusting! The Hyundai Elantra will cannibalize sales from this pile of dog s**t.

At 100,000 miles, I'd rather have a Honda than a Hyundai.

At 200,000 miles... oh wait, Hyundai vehicles rarely last that long ;)

In all honesty the Japanese are not worried about the Americans or the Germans. They do not sleep at night because of the Koreans.

the specs on the Civic hybrid read a lot like the Prius. . . from 14 years ago!!!
And yes, the new SI specs are better than the old. . . Catching up wit the tC!!! But the tC's dual variable timing vs Civic's single, tC should beat it out.
Would be fun to see a comparison!!! Although I sure the tC comes with more standard features for a lot less!
Yes, I think Toyota makes better cars than Honda! But I've got facts to back up my opinion!

Honda is like watching Brett Favre last season, you begin to realize they lost it a long time ago and it's not coming back.

Hideous!

It's official: There are no good looking Hondas.

Can you believe that interior? What a mess. It looked somewhat fresh and different...back in 2005. Come on Honda. The competition went upscale and even GM has passed you! Hey Chevy, I think you ought to start cranking up Cruze production big time.

Disappointed with the exterior styling but it is a Honda. Super Reliable. It will sell.

A very conservative update. Its not bad looking, just disappointed its so close in looks to the current model. Guess they figured if ain't broke... Its not the looker of this segment like it was 5 yrs ago(Elantra now) but its specs are solid, Looking forward to the comparison testing with Focus, Cruze and Elantra.

VERY conservative indeed. The Si gets a boost in torque to 2.4 and with only 200hp that is not very competitive. The Corolla/Matrix upgraded to a 2.4L and hp went down as well from 180 high revving ponies to 164. So the Si remains a competitor with the Corolla S, while the others like the Ford Focus, MS3, WRX, etc. will all be playing in 250+ land and available in hatchback form.

Honda missed the ball and once again offers nothing appealing. To me at least.

Its like they took the previous design and said lets give those scalaped sides like Hyundai has in the Elantra but will leave the front end alone so it mimics the Kia Forte. This car looks bulbous and dowdy to me.The show cars in Detroit at least had some spoilers that helped mitigate this look. The production cars have dialed this back all the way to somthing very dissapointing.Further the interior reminds me of a 10 yr old Mitsubishi's. Again with the stupid 2 tiered dash and that video game speedometer. It looks cheap in my opinion.Ditto for the coupe except they tacked on the Accord coupe rear tailamps. The one positive is the engine from the TSX. The extra torque should drop 0-60 times. Overall the design is poor compared to the Cruze,Focus,Elantra, and even the VW Jetta. It's time for Honda to hire an Italian designer. The've lost it.

The title should read, "...Civic with Myriad Engine Choices," NOT "...Civic with a Myriad of Engine Choices." Basic grammar, 009.

very bad interior. cheap looking plastics in dull colors.... the outside is decent, old civic+current accord. the front of the sedan reminds me of an 01 galant, the best looking part of the car if you ask me. one last thing: where the back door window meets the c-pillar, why is that a different piece???

The Cruz is more efficient , Honda should have improved the torque numbers and efficiency on the 1.8L engine.

I'm more than dissapointed, I'm shocked! It's unbelievable what bad, bad taste can do to a car, (and a Car Company). Honda is making a steady march to the abyss...(coming from a former Honda Civic owner). Like Mini22 said:`It's time for Honda to hire an Italian Designer...

The hybrid will be more competative with the Prius now.
