Future Audi S6 and S8 Engines Revealed

Future Audi S6 and S8 Engines Revealed
Audi just recently unveiled its brand new A6, and the A8 has only been on sale for a few months but the brand is soon to augment its lineup up with high performance S models. Long rumored to receive a turbocharged V8 to replace the naturally aspirated V10 of the previous generation we can now confirm the horsepower output of the S versions. The S6 and S8 will both feature a 4.0 TFSI engine, the S6 will have 408 horsepower while the S8 will have 518 horsepower. It's likely that the S6 (and S7) will use a single turbocharger while the S8 will rely on a twin-turbo setup to deliver the extra 110 horsepower. The regular A8 will also use the 4.0T, delivering 420 horsepower in that application. The S6 and S8 are set to go to production towards the end of 2011 so expect a public debut soon.

Interesting, I wonder where is the article sourced from?

As I feared though- the only way to get a V8 in the new A6 will be to fork over at least 80k for an S6 when all the V8 competition is anywhere from 7-12k cheaper (550i/E550/M56/GS460)......

Audi might drop the price of the S6 like they did with the S4 to be closer pricewise with the competition you listed.

You're assuming the V8's in those cars will still be available when the S6 launches sometime next year.

New A8 should have been launched with this new 4.0T 420BHP engine. Now there might be some angry customers.

A simple STASIS software flash takes the 3.0T to 400+hp without voiding any warranty and would presumedly provide much better mileage than the 4.0T but I know all you V8 petrol heads out there are crying in your milk about all the cool sounding and somewhat affordable V8's disappearing rapidly over the next few years. The new federal mandate looming ahead in 2015 is killing most of them.

Can you not read ?

The new A6 even with quattro is lighter than a RWD 5-Series, A RWD 5-Series is lighter than a RWD E-Class so common sense dictates that the new A6 with quattro is the lightest of the 3 German Mid-size Sedans.

The current S6 {408hp} has never been a competitor for AMG or M vehicles so will never be pitched against those.

The current RS6 {572hp} is the Car which competes with AMG or M vehicles and does very well as far as i am concerned.

The new LIGHTER A6 when powered with same or more powerful engines should shake up the other German Vehicles a little.

BMW advertises their car's weight as unladen weight Worldwide. The weights listed on the USA and brochure site are unladen. To get the curb weight, subtract 85kg (187.4lbs) for the driver and luggage, which is the difference between Unladen and Curb weights.

Audi uses Curb weight on its websites. The difference in weights is not that great. On the BMW site the 750Xi weighs 4718 unladen. If you convert it to curb weight its 4528. Only 100lbs heavier than the A8(4410lbs curb) which is not that much considering the A8 has an aluminum chassis. The standard 750i is 4564 unladen, convert that to curb its 4375, about 40lb less than the A8.

While the new Audis are losing weight. They are not lighter then the BMW rwd counterparts, and around 100lbs lighter than their xdrive rivals. Its more clever marketing than anything.

WTF ?????
And Who The F*** gave you a boost up ?

The key is in the title: UN-LADEN = Weight of vehicle without Fluids or fuel or in the case of an electric vehicle, the batteries.

CURB/KERB WEIGHT = Weight of vehicle including all fluids a % of Fuel but no passengers or cargo; in europe the weight of driver(75kg) is also included.

According to you AUDI Advertises the Weight of their cars with ALL FLUIDS and Possibly extra 75kg for Driver {CURB/KERB Weight} while BMW Advertises the weight of their cars WITHOUT any FLUIDS or FUEL or allowance for Driver {UNLADEN} thus shaving at least 175kgs/385lbs of the percieved weight of their cars.

What you have in effect done is reversed the relationship of Unladen to Kerb/Curb Weights

I seriously dislike people who post blatant lies. it means one of 2 things:
1- You actually know the truth but post a lie to further your agenda
2- You do not know the truth so just type whatever you feel like to make yourself feel better

you obviously just googled the definitions. Yes the Ul-laden is Latin for unloaded but if you go to there international web sites they define there weights differently. And they are different than the ones you copy and pasted from an online dictionary. The weights on the Audi of America site only includes fluids, not driver and luggage which the BMW of America site includes. You really think an AWD A8 is 400 pounds lighter than a rwd 7?LOL.

A8 to 7-Series comparison: Yes because the A8 is ALL ALUMINIUM.

What about the new A6 Quattro compared to the RWD 5-Series ?

But the S6 is not meant to compete with 500+ hp cars.

The RS6 is perfect for that role.

Agreed, here is the S* lay of the land wrt BMW:

335 (M sport) < s4 < M3

550 (M sport) < S6 <M5 <RS6

750 (M sport) < S8

RS6 < M5 the RS6 was only faster in a straight line. The M5 is a better drive.
