Can A Ford Mustang Take On An M3 Around Laguna Seca?
One car that has been put head-to-head against the BMW M3 is the new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. This limited-edition street car is suppose to be the no nonsense Mustang.

Although one can make the argument that Ford had to go through a lot of trouble to reach the M3's capabilities, you have to give credit where it's due considering the hardcore 'Stang is still cheaper than an M3.

The real question, at the end of the day is simple:

Can a Ford Mustang realistically go against an M3 and come out on top OR even remain close?

Ford’s Jim Farley is well-known among autojournos for off-the-cuff remarks, but as he stands in a Laguna Seca garage, facing approximately twenty members of the Press As A Whole, he manages to deliver a real bunker-buster, one which speaks directly to this humble writer’s heart.

“This car… it isn’t meant to be stored in a garage somewhere. It should be on YouTube… maybe doing something illegal.” Oh, yes. Let’s immediately go out and do that. It isn’t until I’ve reached the top of a Monterey canyon, my ears and eyeballs vibrating from the past few minutes’ violent, screeching, Pikes-Peak-style run, that I come to my senses and delete the footage from my Android camera. We’ll let someone else lose their press-trip privileges following the big man’s advice...

"Can A Ford Mustang Take On An M3 Around Laguna Seca?"

So much so that BMW has stopped making the M3 and has gone back to building airplane parts.

God bless American ingenuity...a solid rear axle American car for $25K less takes on a German Ultimate Driving Machine and holds its own !!!!!

You know what ... at least give Ford credit for giving you speed-trap busting cars for a reasonable price and most importantly, not making them look like Fords from the 80s

- Why not? No let the deboosting begin. Not because of what I just said here, but I'll get deboosted for what I said in another thread.

Gotta love Ford; even in a financial crisis, they never gave up on the Mustang. And now that they're profitable again, the Mustang is better than ever.

Gotta love BMW; the M3, no matter what the whining 'purists' claim, just gets better with every generation.

Gotta love these two companies for giving the public exotic car performance, for reasonable prices.

Kinda funny how a certain auto giant that never had any financial crisis is too chickens**t to build a sports car, let alone one that could touch either the Mustang or the M3. Guess they're too busy focusing on hybrids, and saving their tarnished, undeserved reputation, since that's all they have.

Impressive car, I would like to see a professional drivers time with the M-3 against the Mustang, Now that would be a comparison, and come on, why can't Ford put in huge brakes? How much is metal by the ton? Or maybe even better the new composite material for the rotors?

People forget that the Mustang is able to keep up with the M3 in the capable hands of a Professional track driver on relatively smooth pavement.

I'm not doubting that the Mustang is a very capable car, but there are two things that will never be on a car that I buy: drum brakes, solid-rear axle.

If you can put an independent rear suspension on a Focus, Expedition, etc., then you can put one on the Mustang.

They put a live axle because it is better for drag racing because you get far less axle hop. The last generation CTS-V is proof of that.
