Porsche 550 Spyder may be revived in 2014
Fans have been eagerly waiting for Porsche to receive a version of the small midengine roadster concept that Volkswagen introduced in 2009. Nothing was ever confirmed but it now appears that the proposed car will soon enter production, according to a recent interview by Automotive News Europe with Porsche CEO Matthias Müller. Muller has already picked out a name: 550. For those who may not be familiar, the Porsche 550 Spyder is one of the brand’s seminal

This is exciting news! If Porsche builds this car to its roots than It will be in my garage. And I hope they leave all the modern features out of the car as best as possible. Like, gps, radio, cigarette lighter, cruise control, power seats, a/c, power top etc. And NO - The Boxster is not even close to a 550 Spyder, so please don't go their. And YES, the name "550 Spyder" is the right name - what else? Hello!! I hope they make it in aluminum. And please keep the size right and not SUV large! Bring it on Porsche!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good "entry level" sports car. However applealing the idea of a "no electronics" version might be to some, I'd be the target audience would turn and run for a car without those modern features.

No A/C? No sales in the sunbelt.

I understand your "Appliance" mentality but you need to understand the "550's" history! A 550 Spyder most likely is simply not for you. And where did you get the idea this car is supposed to be an "entry level" car?? Their are many "Porsche Enthusiasts" that want a no frills race car in their garage. I'm simply tired of appliance loaded vehicles for your average drone! Please keep your "SUV" thought system away from the classic Porsche 550 Spyder! Thank you very much!

I agree. The concept of a no-frills sportscar in the spirit of the original 550 is super appealing to me. But don't hold your breath.

If they must equip this car for the fat-asses, why can't they offer an alternate for us drivers?

Right on Irishmike! The entitled, lazy, fat, sweaty hog - Drone's need to keep their hands off the resurrection of the Porsche 550 Spyder! I can see one in my garage now!

Except that Porsche will never offer a stripped out mid engined sportscar for the masses. The reason is due to it's competition. They can get away with it with the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R because they are both limited production. This car will be based on the Bluesport architecture. It will be competing against VAG's own version and perhaps Audi's. Further Porsche's version will probably cost the most.
Look for the 550 to be in name only. However the car can still have A/C and accessories and still have the minimalist look of a 550 spyder. I assume you recall the original Boxster concept from 1993. It would have been great if the production version looked like that car.
