DRIVEN: Porsche's Poor Man's GT3, The Cayman R
There was one major problem with one of the coolest cars released in 2010, the Porsche Boxster Spyder. People just didn't get the idea of a roadster that was totally unrealistic and built just for fun's sake. Journalists that shall remain nameless harpooned the car for its hardly functional top and bitched about the GT3 seats being too hard and narrow.

DUH! It's a hardcore performance machine that is suppose to be about saving weight and eeking out the most performance from a Boxster! That means creature comforts like air conditioning, nice seats and a top that actually works come second. A Boxster Spyder isn't meant to be a daily driver, folks.

I think the proper usage of a Spyder would be to take it -- on a sunny day -- to the track, do some great laps and drive it home to your loving garage. Of course all the while the top is off.

Since some irrational journos decided to give Porsche trouble, I think they created the Cayman R out of spite. Now writers can't sit there and complain about a manual soft top that takes several minutes to fasten.

However, they still have their fat asses to squeeze into the carbon fiber bucket seats...

How is the Cayman R a "poor man's GT3?" The Caymans are mid-engine car, with superior balance, something that we all covet for the track, while the GT3 is a rear-engine 911. That's not to say that the GT3 is not a great track car. It is, but that is due to different, and more expensive components. The Cayman R is an awesome car at any price.
