Because he didn't answer the question............and the title references a Toyota increase...not a lexus drop. But you can focus on whatever you want I guess.

lexus 'outsells' the competition because of one car: the RX is over 40% of the brand. lexus cars don't outsell the competitors on a model by model basis....NOT EVEN CLOSE. for example....

5923 lexus cars sold, 11379 bmw passenger cars sold.
349 GS sold, 4200 5-series sold.
706 LS sold, 1100 7-series sold.

cigar: you're right, the lexus models are old and tired. but the GS was always a sales bomb. but being old doesn't explain why the 5-series sell 12 TIMES more.

ah yes, resorting to name calling, that's brilliant. you're right, those 349 GS buyers are much smarter than the 4200 5-series buyers.

semper: are you really going on about those FIVE LFA sales? the LFA is 0.0008% of lexus sales. it's not like F is competing with the thousands of AMG and M models sold.

Hmmmm. A similar oo9 article titled "Nissan Rocks February Up 31.6% - Infiniti Leaps Ahead 29.9% For Month" saw no need to deride Nissan/Infiniti, or to belittle their accomplishments, yet here, he deemed it necessary to "put the numbers in context" with his "cash on the hood" editorial.

If I didn't know any better, I'd get the impression that oo9 has an anti-Toyota bee in his bonet.

Maybe perhaps it is due to Toyota's notorious profit decline and obvious sales incentives to try to salvage market share. Their effort is laughable. Their "use our safety technology" ads backdrop their numerous safety issues and low NHTSA ratings on major models. Their pro-environment (read "low mileage") efforts are highlighted by the fact they rank last in fleet mileage compared to most major competitors. Their profits are a far #3 behind Ford and VW.

Toyota is a marketing (misleading) machine, nothing else. Sales mean nothing without profits. That is a DUMB business model.

So what? they are trying to buy market share at the expense of profits. Toyota is topped by both Ford and VW in profitability BY FAR!!!

Toyota's new motto: "We aim to be the best auto company in the world, no matter how much lying, cheating, misleading, and profiteering we have to do. Whatever it takes!!!"

Chevrolet Division, by itself, outsold all of Toyota by 15K vehicles.
