New Mercedes CLS coming soon

If Mercedes set out to make a crowd-puller with the CLS, it has succeeded. Shy and retiring old gents couldn't help themselves. Wherever it was parked, sooner or later one would be walking around it with three-pointed stars in his eyes.

In an encouraging sign for the venerable brand, the CLS also speaks to many for whom superannuation remains a long way off. And when they say "it looks like a Jag", they mean it as a compliment.

Mercedes intends to step up the heat this fall as dealers are telling the Spies that the CLS550 is very, very close.

Could a 4-Matic version be in the offing as well?

I absolutely love it. I don't want to as I typically hate Mercedes, but that seriously is one of the best looking cars on the road right now.

In the most recent issue of Automobile, in an interview with the Chair of AMG, he states that he drives a CLS AMG; and, "That is the secret car... The design and style are so outstanding that it is now a cult car." Of course, he could drive any MB product, including a Maybach.
And as far as reliability, other than a flat tire (nail), I've yet to experience even one problem with this car, zero, nil, none, nothing. It runs great, averages 20 mpg in surburban driving, 23 on the hwy. I've owned several BMWs (still have a Z4), a '92 MB400se, '98 SLK, '99 CLK320 (wife), CLK430, ML 430, and G500. This CLS is the best of the bunch by far.

CLS sales are collapsing in the US - the 550 engine may help sales for another year - its not the "in thing" anymore.

May 2006 Mercedes sales were the highest May sales in Mercedes history, up 21% from May 2005. Year to date sales for Mercedes are up 17%, compared to 2005.
