The Ultimate Underdog? Buick May End Up As Top Luxury Brand In The US For 2011

An air of hyperbole seems to float in the mainstream media about the success of General Motors, Chrysler and Ford. They cite things like earnings reports, repaying debt, you name it. But they don’t usually tackle the concrete sales of cars.

When you look at the numbers, one success story clearly stands above all: Buick outsold Lexus in February, for the second month in a row. Buick also outsold Mercedes-Benz (if you discount sales of the Sprinter work van), along with Audi and Acura. Only BMW outsold Buick on the strength of BMW’s new X3 SUV. The storied German brand topped Buick by 800 units.

Does anyone actually consider Buick a luxury brand. When I think luxury brand I think, Audi, Infiniti, BMW, Acura, not Buick.

Funny how you don't include Mercedes-Benz when you think luxury but you put Audi, Infiniti, BMW, Acura.

Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Jaguar in any random order are luxury cars. Acura & Infiniti is on another tear along with Cadillac. They just aren't as luxurious as the German competition lets face it.

Deboost me all you want but Buick is a luxury brand. A tier 1 luxury brand? hell no. But it's in a niche market between economy and Cadillac.

I never thought Hyundai would make one decent car and look where they are now. Buicks are great cars. They have beautiful interiors, are reliable and have a nice smooth drive.Drive one of the newer ones and im sure you'll at least be slightly impressed. They are better than Acura as far as luxury goes imho.

If Buick is 'luxury' oh oh whine, then so is the Camry (hey, they both cost about the same, only the Camry will last longer, even after recalls)

Buick is a "near-luxury" brand, and every new car pushes it up market.

Just purchased a 2011 Buick Regal. It is everybit as nice inside as a C class, 3 series, and A4. The styling is fresh, and seductive. I've had mercedes and bmw before. It may not be a "luxury" brand but in my eyes neither is a lexus. Glorified over rated Toyota.

That is so sad. Where are the true car enthusiasts? I cant believe the majority of the comments. Im 27 years old so I hope everyone who is saying that Buick isnt a luxury brand are younger than me. Check your history fellas. Of course they arent on a Mercedes-Benz/BMW/Audi or even a Lexus level (not yet) but like it or not they are a luxury brand. You can call them an "entry level" luxury brand if simply stating luxury brand doesnt sit well with you but they are a luxury brand.

Buick is entry luxury. Their non-exclusive prices are giving them a sales edge over other, more stoic competition. Their Regal and Lacrosse are competent vehicles.
