Jaguar Clears Things Up About The Bertone B99
Right before the kick off of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Bertone released pictures of a concept they drew up for Jaguar dubbed the B99. Only problem was that Jaguar wasn't involved. Oh yeah, and Jaguar wasn't exactly feelin' it, apparently.

Though most Spies thought the Bertone take was a pretty good looking one, some commenters noted it was a step backwards since the design reminded them of the older Jags that didn't move too much off dealer lots.

In retrospect, that was a good call and since we've noted that Jaguar has made a departure from its heritage, it seems that Jaguar keeping its distance from the B99 is a good thing.

Or, is it?

One of the highlights of this year's Geneva Motor Show was the B99 design study for an entry-level Jaguar sedan by Bertone. The concept car was created independently by the Italian design house, without the involvement of Jaguar. Therefore, the B99 does not preview the design of the future X-Type, as confirmed by a top Jaguar executive...

Jaguar should rip off the design, enlarge it, and make it their ultra-flagship! This short of reminds me of the Chrysler Imperial that would've been nice to see in production form! Cadillac Sixteen included!

The new Jags are a step forward but perhaps not for the better...they have lost their sense of elegance which the Bertone model reeks of !

Unfortunately-Jaguar sales tanked with this old design. And really the bottom line is sales. Attracting a few enthusiasts that hark back to this admittedly beautiful elegant look does not make for multiple sales.
The previous XJ looked like this. It was mechanically modern but looked retro. Sales were not good. Sales of the new XJ and XF are dramatically better then this design body style. It is obvious why Jaguar wants nothing to do with this design.
