Toyota Says FT-86 Restyled After Feedback From Drivers

Toyota Says FT-86 Restyled After Feedback From Drivers

Driver feedback from early development tests is one of the main factors behind the redesign of Toyota’s FT-86, which appeared in its closer-to-production form at the Geneva show.

The FT-86 II’s restyle keeps the original concept’s basic silhouette but lifts the nose, a move forced by pedestrian impact regulations. However, the biggest change is to the A-pillars, which have been moved back by around 100mm at the base, resulting in a more upright windscreen. It also gets a remodelled rear end, and LEDs in a new front bumper that draws heavily on 2007’s FT-HS concept.

Not a pretty sight to my eyes. Maybe a trophy for Tuner Kidz?

WOW! A lot of haters here~ Steve I am not talking about you but rather all of the other deboost kings below.

This design KICKS ASS! Yes it has a little 370Z in the rear but the rest is all Toyota. I am not a big fan of all of the busyness on the lower rear skirt but the rest is very nice.

For those that like the old FT-86 design better, it wasn't because it was too odd. This design is more 'normal' and that is what will sell to the masses.

Yes it will be a little gutless HP wise but as others have said here this will be a tuners dream and they will have a heyday with this one.

So they took a great looking concept that should had gone to production AS IS and let the Scion tC crowd have at it with their APC kits, and Radio Shack LED strips. While I love LED DRL's and LED taillamps, they could have tastefully done it on this car instead of hacking the face to look like some kind of Fast and Furious mobile.

The original looked clean and stylish.

That car is going to be all "bark" and "no" bite. All "show" and no "go". The 370z will kick the FT86's butt. The FT86 will perform about as well as a Scion tc. I miss the days of the 1994 supra. Back when Toyota built cars that performed, instead of these lifeless appliances that they are selling now. How the heck can someone be a Toyota Fan? Even the KIA's are more exciting. Toyota has gone to crap.

Any bets that the Subaru version will blow this next gen Scion TC out of the water?

Why don't you tell us how you really feel? and considering the Subaru and Toyota versions won't be sold in the same markets....who cares which is better?

Who cares which is better?

No one does (Toyota buyers don't care). And Toyota knows that. Thats why the Toyota version will be nothing more than a Scion TC replacement. What a crappy car company.

Allot of people here have a personal bone to pick with Toyota and that's fine, no one has to love everything a manufacturer produces, let's face it, I love my Macbook Pro but ... I think the Ipad is a terrible idea.

Same thing goes for Toyota, I'm an engineer by trade and I think that anyone who hasn't driven a V6 Rav4 and calls the company unexciting needs their head checked.

The new direction is clearly going to be leaps ahead of what others are doing, Toyota has already said we are to expect more Turbos in the future and with the Tesla and Subaru association I can't help but thing that the future is full of insanely fun and innovative stuff

Some may say the present is full of Camrys and Corollas

but a larva doesn't stay a larva forever.

I've seen enough butterflies in my life to know that

One thing is for sure. It will not perform worth a damn. Toyota hasn't built a top-notch performer since 1994. Don't expect it to change with this car.

My bet is 180hp-220hp and a 3400lbs+ curb weight. This car will not light the world on fire. When was the last time Toyota had a car that did do that that (lit the world on fire)? 1994

LexSucks oh oh whine, shut yer trap. You haven't drove the car, no one here has. So how do you know it drives worth crap? You're a troll, go hide under your bridge. The car weighs around 2800lbs and will have at least 200hp.

"You haven't drove the car"

- Do I need to? What have Toyota done in the last 10 years to make you think that they will create a barn-stormer?

2800lbs with the current D.O.T crash standards? You wish. The Scion TC weighs 2970lbs. Keep dreaming. You Toyota fans are so delusional that you make up your own (false) facts. LOL!

The only time that Toyota can compete, or even be on top is before anyone has actually driven the car. That’s when the fanboys start proclaiming superiority because they know that it can’t be proven (yet).

When the car finally does come out, it ends up being a mid-pack performer. And at that point, it’s the Toyota/Lexus fanboys that "shuts the hell up". And that exactly what you will be doing once the car is driven and tested.

"From the mouths of babes utters forth foolishness"

Toyota and Subaru call this the 'lightweight' concept from the beginning, yet you think it's going to weigh 3400lbs? That's what the Camry weighs. This is smaller than a Z/Genesis Coupe. Smaller than the TC. I don't see where you get your facts, but they're wrong. Stop it while you're behind. You claim to know it weighs 3400lbs and the driving dynamics will stink. I say you haven't drove it yet and that you're wrong on the weight. Get the facts straight.

freshseth83,

Have you weighed the car yourself? " 'lightweight' concept from the beginning"? Like the LF-A? Which is heavier than all of the cars that it competes against. A vette Z06 is lighter than the LF-A for Christ-Sakes. So pardon me for not sharing in your optimism.

It look really aggressive and I like it a lot. Now just put some of that Supra technology into this baby and give 225 hp to 265 hp and tune the exhaust so it sound sporty and were good to go.

They did more then just made the windshield more upright. The made the greenhouse higher(not good),The made the c piler panel upswept as well as the fender(not good). It has too many deep overdone spoilers(not good). All they had to do was raise the front hood for the euro pedestrian crash regs and made the windshield more up right. They should have left the rest of the car alone. The original design was more destinctive.

Now, looking back at the previous FT, this new one is far more aggressively designed. I guess Toyota can't win in the eyes of the nitpickers: If the design is like the one above, it's just too 'overdone' and 'ugly.' But if they tone it down a bit, then it's 'boring' and 'generic.'
