Chrysler's 200 Still Falls Short Of the Competion

Chrysler's 200 Still Falls Short Of the Competion

Chrysler had its hands full when it took on redesigning the midsize Sebring and creating the 200. It was a marvelous effort — one of monumental proportions.

Through years of abuse, the Sebring had become the rented punch line for a brand considered a joke.

But then came the Super Bowl, the ad, and a shift in consumer thinking about luxury, Detroit and Chrysler. The hardest steel, the hottest fire. What? That's the 200?

The 200 is still a joke, actually all cars made by the garbage 3 are jokes.

What could be more stupid than taking the same car, changing the headlights and calling it a whole different name. Like Ford did with the 500. The "sebring" 200 looks much better styled now, and the interior is significantly better, but wait till its all new before changing the name. American Car companies are always changing names and models just to keep buyers interested whil Honda can still sell the Accord and Civic, and Toyota can sell the Corolla and Camry for all of these years and still do well. Problem is they built so many crappy cars that they have to keep changing the names so people wil not associate their past experiences of poor build quality and cheap interior with a new model that doesn't have these problems anymore.

I'd take a Sonata over this pos anyday. Hyundai has V6 engines more powerful than anything the big 3 from Detroit but they are more concerned making something with V6 power and 4 cylinder economy. Just like Ford is doing with its EcoBoost V6 turbo engine in its F150 and 4 cylinder in the Explorer. Thats why you can have a 270hp sedan getting well over 30 mpg.

Maybe you can tell your UAW buddies who build this Chrysler car to smoke a little more pot and drink some more booze on their lunch breaks. Maybe this would help in the "advertisement" of the car, in order to increase sales for the new product.

if you find a better car, buy it.

The 200 is essentially just a Sebring with a better interior. Chrysler did the best with what they had to work with, but a polished turd is still a turd.

lol these articles get more and more rediculous. An effort of monumental proportions? Seriously? A refresh, and a name change dont equate to a monumental effort that statement has no basis in logic. Its just a refresh so what if it still falls short of the competition the point is, its better than the previous version and simply a place holder for the next car whats the big deal.

Huccumb the picture shown above is different from the one in the article. Is the one above a concept?

Yep that's the concept. Chrysler can design some beautiful cars, hopefully someday their engineering can match it.

But the 200 is imported from Detroit and built by the scums of the UAW.

Look-The car is significantly better then what it was. It's V6 is the most powerful in it's class. it's interior is significantly upgraded and it handles a little better.Admittidly this was a rush job. Chysler said they did not have time to completely redesign this car.Oh 85BMW745i-guess what. The Sonata does not offer a V6 engine any more. They only offer a N/A and turbo 4.The replacement is coming next year as a 2013 model.

Yes, but that turbo 4 in the Sonata out powers most if not all of its competitors v6 engines in both horsepower and fuel economy.

I am fully aware that there is no v6 option in the sonata, but Hyundai does make some very powerful v6 engines, just not in the sonata. 270 hp and 33 mpg is hard to beat no matter who makes it and what ever the engine is.

Whats interesting about this guys critique is what he bases his critism on.His says the car looks better but he doesn't like it. He says the car is quieter and rides better and the interior is nicer. He states the V6 gets 29 MPG and the 4 cylinder gets 31 MPG.Then he complains the 4 cylinder is not good enough at only 175 HP. How much HP does a 4 cylinder Mazda 6 put out or a Ford Fusion or a Toyota Camry. I think it is pretty close to the same. I know that the Accord and Sonata put out close to 200. However does this make the 200 inferior to it's competition here. Then he lambasts the info connect system. I think he placed the most importance on being able to play with a computer while driving. Sorry but I think this guy simply has his priorities wrong. One should not base the value of a car primarily on it's info computer connect system. Contrary to popular belief it's how the car feels to drive and sit in. This is a problem that i think a lot of people and car manufactorers have today. Simply entice people by installing the best computer infotainment system available. They then can then play with themselves before they hit an oncoming bus!! What a stupid article!
