What Is The Worst "Special Edition" You've Seen On The Road?

What Is The Worst
If there's one trick that automakers like to use in order to push product, it's the good 'ol fashion "special edition" trick. While some manufacturers actually limit production to a set number of units, there is a good number that don't.

Additionally, some special edition models make sense because they essentially bundle a bunch of optional equipment together and can be priced at a more aggressive rate. Take, for example, the 2012 Porsche 911 Black. Although it only comes in two black paint colors, you save approximately $6,000 when compared to a similarly optioned 911.

Then there are others that you just have to shake your head at. One example is the Funk Master Flex Ford Expedition. Armed with an interesting paint scheme and a slightly modified interior, it really isn't all that special. Hell, the one aspect of the car that should really blow you away -- the sound system -- isn't even all that and a bag of chips.

With that said, let us know what other special editions you've seen that deserve the stamp of shame.

Boy, do I get tired of this "stirring of the pot" in lieu of actual automotive news :-(

I agree with steve this is not a great source of news and at times to right winged so my visits are few and I see many others that left.

In my entirely subjective opinion, inciting flame wars is not a good use of neurons. It smacks of "trolling" on usenet. I realize that what I am expressing is nothing more than *my* opinion, and I respect that you, or others, may disagree with my sentiment.

Steve, if you're unsatisfied, why do you keep returning? You're like a person who keeps visiting a restaurant only to keep complaining about the food.

I have always been a big fan of the Looney Tunes Edition Chevy Minivans and the Nautica Edition Mercury Minivans. When I am fortunate enough to see one of these "special" editions, the thought of the "special" person who bought it new puts a smile on my face thinking about the decision making process used in determining that that was the correct vehicle for their needs.

I can only imagine the water cooler conversations the next day at work, "Yeah, I wasn't too sure about getting a minivan, but then they showed me the Nautica Edition and honestly, it was all I could do to hold my excitement. I mean, I wear Nautica clothing, why not have my minivan match my wardrobe?"

One of my neighbors has the funk master flex expedition, i think it is quite neat. I am from seattle, so maybe that's why i did the 80's rap scene though. I think the worst special editions/ limited editions were the pt cruisers. Every other one of those things drives around with a special badge on it. Granted, i still appreciated the woody version. Maybe i just have bad taste.

Lexus SC430 Pebble Beach Edition - what a pretentious car. Just get the regular SC430 (if you must) and be done with it.

BMW Alpina Z8 in 2003. It actually reduced power and added a slushbox.

Buying a special edition vehicle, 99% of the time, is like buying an iphone in January when you know the new model is only a few months from market.
