Five Cars That JUST Missed The Mark, Do You Agree?

Five Cars That JUST Missed The Mark, Do You Agree?
Like we seem to believe that there is a car for everyone, there is a publication for everyone. Although not everyone agrees that Consumer Reports is a good enthusiast publication, it does have its merits for the right audience.

Now as Consumer Reports publishes its Top Picks, which is limited to 10 choices, it even admits some good cars will get left out; however, do they ought to be.

You decide.

For example, do you think the Nissan Altima deserves the "W" over the Hyundai Sonata?

Or how about the Toyota Rav4 toppling the Subaru Forester?

Take a look at five good cars that Consumer Reports even admits are close calls.

Limiting our annual Top Picks to only 10 cars inevitably means that some great cars get left behind. We always encourage readers to look at our full Ratings—not only the top-scoring car—and pick a high-scoring model that best suits their needs, wants, and budget.

So, if you look just beyond the 2011 Top Picks, what might you find? A lot of excellent cars...

I think the Sonata lost to the Altima because it got a blend of Toyota Camry and ES330 design written all over it and it a Hyundai. The reviewers might be bias toward a certain brand.

It's more practical than many luxury models so I'm surprised it didn't make the list.

"Or how about the Toyota Rav4 toppling the Subaru Forester? "

Ummmm, I didn't read that anywhere.....

What CR did say was:
"Subaru Forester: The Forester and Toyota RAV4 duke it out year after year for the crown of Top Small SUV. We base this pick on the versions that sell the most: non-turbocharged, four-cylinder models, and there, the RAV4 wins. But if you're willing to buy a fancy Forester, the turbocharged 2.5XT Limited outscores the (also impressive) RAV4 V6 Limited. Unfortunately, the Forester's new-for-2011 non-turbo engine wound up not improving fuel economy in our tests. Regardless, all Foresters are extremely practical and easy to live with."

Hardly a "toppling"...
