VIDEO: 3 Cars For The Price Of...3 Cars
The thing about supercars is that they're typically not that flexible. In other words, if you buy a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, you likely won't be too comfortable driving it around pothole-ridden, urban roads.

However, the new McLaren MP4-12C is singing a different tune. According to Chris Harris, of EVO Magazine, it is really like having three cars and even goes as far as to compare it to having E-Class-like ride quality, GT3 sharpness and 458's thrills.

Could it be THAT good or is Harris just puffing it up because it's British?

Anyway you slice it, "the Macca" is a helluva product and it all sounds very interesting. We'll take ours in orange, please.

What is it?

The new McLaren MP4-12C, rival to the Ferrari 458 Italia, offspring of Ron Dennis. It costs £168,500, so is cheaper than the Ferrari, too.

Technical highlights?

No roll bars, no LSD, hydraulically supported and connected suspension, adaptive dampers, a little under 600bhp, 1301kg dry, carbon tub, optional ceramic brakes, brake assist, twin turbochargers. More technology than we’ve ever seen in a sports car before....

At almost $150,000 less then the LFA, it sounds as though this thing has a more luxurious ride then the LFA and a sportier ride then the LFA. Plus you don't have to lease it :)

LOL......., please put down whatever you smoking. The last time I check the Lexus LF-A beat a hardcore version Ferrari 599 in several comparison. Google it and you see. And no this car exhaust note is No where near the Lexus LF-A.

Does the Bugatti Veyron worth $2,000,000 U.S. dollar? ah No but people still buy it for prestige and bragging right.

The Lexus LFA isn't even a lexus exhaust note, they had to get Yamaha to do it lol! The Veyron has a top speed and acceleration bragging market that neither of these cars have. The 599 is Ferrari's grand tourer, it isn't a race car, Ferrari has the F458 which is faster, lexus fans refuse to compare this Toyota to it because they know it's a better track car. This Mclaren competes against the F458, and with the hydraulic suspension settings, it also has the refinement of a traditional luxury sporty car. All for $150,000 less!

@Joe_Limon: So... McLaren doesn't outsource? And what's wrong with outsourcing, especially when you're getting help from professionals? Would it then be appropriate to say that the engine isn't McLaren because McLaren always bragged that the F1 is the fastest, naturally-aspirated production car?

And it's so true. This car sounds nowhere as awesome as the LFA!

And considering the fact that the Stig prefers the 458 to the LFA... that says a lot!

Btw, McLaren showed off the MP4-12C and its chassis and engine at Cars and Coffee today.

The point behind the LFA was that it was supposed to be purely "Lexus" i.e. why they bought a carbon loom to create a chassis, when outsourcing would have led allowed companies who have been designing and building Carbon components for decades the ability to properly design the vehicle. I just find it amusing that some people are quick to point out the exhaust note which isn't lexus, and just as quick to ignore the poorly designed chassis (if you don't think it's poorly designed, then tell me how a Z06 with a 45% larger displacement engine weighs in 83-303lbs less then it using an aluminum chassis instead of a more expensive lighter weight carbon one?

Because a Z06 has nowhere near the luxury and accomodations as the LF-A. That weight of all of that stuff adds up. The vette is hollow cheap and very un-luxurious. Not knocking the vette, as it was never intended to be a luxury coupe in the first place but thats the reason it weighs less.

yes... because leather, carbon trim components, next to zero seat adjust-ability and the occasional aluminum interior part will add 400lbs (more than the weight difference because of the difference in engine weight as well)! lol

@Joe_limon,

again stop whatever is that you're smoking or inhaling bro, this is what you says, The 599 is Ferrari's grand tourer, it isn't a race car,"

Here is a video of the Ferrari 599 HGTE and Tiff say other wise,

And a win against a Ferrari is win

Wow, a win against a three year old Ferrari, you must be proud! Funny, when you ask drivers which car they would prefer to own: Ferrari 458 vs LF-A, how many choose the LF-A?

First of all, the McLaren would kill a LF-A on a racetrack in handling. I'll always prefer displacement over forced injection, but aside from the cool electronic instrument panel and that high-reving engine, the McLaren has the LF-A beat and at a lower cost.

As for Tiff's comments, he's fucking awesome! You Lexus fans don't seem to appreciate that every driver has different preferences. The LF-A may suit Tiff's driving style better.
