TWO Questions, TWO Trucks, Who's Gonna Take The Crown?

TWO Questions, TWO Trucks, Who's Gonna Take The Crown?
There are always rivalries, whether it's sports, autos or even enemies from your childhood. Some things just won't get along. Take, for example, the muscle car sales war between the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang. In 2010, the Camaro finally had what it took to unseat the Mustang.

This time though we're going to investigate this year's hot battle between the all-new Ford Explorer and the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both are impressive products but only one can take the crown.

In January, sales were just about neck-and-neck with Ford selling just over 7,300 Explorers and Chrysler selling over 7,600 Jeep Grand Cherokees.

Now in February, the sales pace changed a bit with Ford moving more than 9,650 Explorers out of showrooms while Jeep lagged behind pushing more than 8,650 Grand Cherokees.

With that said, we've got two questions:

1) WHY is the new Ford Explorer selling better than the new Jeep Grand Cherokee?

2) WHO will win the sales war between the Explorer and Grand Cherokee for 2011?

Price and space. Ford has a 3rd row seat + a cheaper MSRP (well at least in Canada).

Although you have a valid point, these are the cars that are getting compared most commonly.

The Durango is overlooked and is more so a "wild card" in the threesome.

in terms of sales, the Explorer will come out on top. In terms of a better vehicle overall, the Jeep is the better choice.

Some good points everyone, I see some very nice cross overs, not off road trucks, I would imagine that the Jeep would be more off road oriented, but the Ford would have a better engine and better quality, and lastly the Ford has a 3rd row, so way more versatile as far as a people mover, looks better than a minivan, It would be a tough call, I would probably go with the Ford because neither can go off road and the Ford is the better mini van.

You don't think the Jeep can go off-road ???? Seriously ???

u080570, If I were to compare this Jeep to my Civic then yes it can go off road, and sure it has the BS trail rated...All that means is that they made a road across the Rubicon with the best off road drivers, They also have a team of road builders that place rocks on the hard parts to make a smooth road, this is a fact, nothing I made up, nor is it an opinion, this same team could also take the Ford Explorer or almost any vehicle across the most impassible road with the road building team. They probably also sustained serious trail damage. I am not saying the Jeep is bad, but it is no Jeep Rubicon, I am an off road nut, If I wanted something for off road I would buy the Rubicon.

The Explorer/Cherokee debate has been the same since there introduction in the early 90s. The Explorer has always been larger at a lower price. The Cherokee has always been a bit smaller, but with some added features at a slightly higher price comparitaely. These two fall into that same model, but with imporved quality. I would expect families to flock to the Explorer and young singles/couples and empty nesters to flock to the Jeep.

Both are much improved, and I wouldn't be unhappy in either of them. Both look very nice, too.
