VW doesn't just want Alfa, they want the entire Ferrari Group, (Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo). There was some talk a while ago, that with the Chrysler deal with Fiat, they might need to sell it off in order to help finance it, but I think they have backed off that now. Of course VW wants them. Who wouldn't?
