When I sold my Civic I put it on the best site possible. Cars.com. It allowed loads of pictures, let me print out ready-made for sale signs to put in the car and around my office, and got more coverage than anything else (autotrader, bargain news, etc.). I used to utilize the BN in my area but they have been scammed big time and are loaded with the "let me send you a check to ship your car" people.

When I finally had the car presented to a potential customer, I met him near my office, he brought his mechanic (not a real mechanic, just a buddy who knows cars I guess). Everything was immaculate, even under the hood. Don't let it pass you by, wiping down the engine bay goes a LONG way in selling a car. He took it for a drive and even with my aftermarket exhaust he noted how spirited it felt and how quiet the exhaust really was. With 3 people in the car on a 98 degree day with AC blasting perfectly, he was sold.

I got $7,000 just under KBB of $7,500 and when I sold it I brought him the bra cover, stock exhaust, winter mats, ALL records (service, tires, oil changes, etc.). I even transferred the warranty to him. Not bad for a 2002 Civic with 70,000 miles sold in 2006.

The current car I own should be a little easier to sell as it is an AWD Matrix XR. A somewhat rare car that is sought after for its good mpg's, ridiculous reliability, and AWD when it's needed in the sloppy stuff.

Heck, it took me a month to find this car and I had to drive 2.5 hours to Massachusetts no less.

Biggest challenge for car nuts is we treat our cars so much better than average. You know this because when you shop for used cars you see so much crap. So you set a fair price, like $1-2K over market, and you get people trying to talk you down on the phone without seeing it. Best you can do is take lots of pictures.
