HAPPY ST. PATS! WHO Knows The Origin Of The IRISH 4 Leaf Clover Mark On The ITALIAN Alfa Romeo's?
It's no secret that 001 is a huge fan of Alfa Romeo.
And even though he has Sicilian heritage, a yearly St. Pats tradition of enjoying some Lucky charms dowsed in green beer (A tradition started by him when he was the master MC/DJ at the Library Nightclub in Niagara Falls, USA back in the early 80's) is always in order (albeit NOT when he will be driving).
So seeing it's St. Patrick's Day and only two days away from the Italian St. Joseph's Day we thought we'd throw you a little quiz and see WHO will have the bragging rights today on AutoSpies.com.
So here goes:
On many Alfa's you see a 4 leaf clover decal pasted on the side of the car.
Kind of weird having an Irish symbol on the side of an Italian car.
WHO knows the origin and WHY it's on them?
Spies, discuss....

I love that badge and have asked Alfa owners with it at the Monterey Historics where it came from and NOBODY knew!

There is another story that says the one of the Alfa drivers had a tryst with an Irish girl the night before the race and promised her that he would show her how special she was to him when he drove through her town with his car...

"Kind of weird having an [sic]Irish symbol on the side of an Italian car." - A 4-leaf clover is not an Irish symbol. For a clover to be an Irish symbol , it would have to bear 3 leaves (to represent the trinity). 4-leaf clovers have 4 leaves and therefore can't be considered shamrocks.

4 leaf clovers are rare, and are considered lucky omens for those that find them. Thats why they are special. So the Alfa driver got lucky one night and decided to show the girl how special she was...and the symbolism stuck.
