Why Can't Lexus Make A Desirable Small Car? CT200h Fails To Outrank The Prius In UK Review
Step by careful step, Toyota’s premium automotive brand, Lexus, is growing in stature. Having been a bit-part player in Europe for so long, the firm launched its first diesel, the IS220d, onto the compact executive saloon market in 2005, in the process attacking BMW, Audi and Mercedes’ traditional big-hitters head-on.

Lexus is having the same problems as Buick. Trying to appeal to a younger buyer. Although I would much rather take a Regal Turbo w/ AWD and a stick than a Lexus IS

What confuses me is that this review was takes from Autocar.co.uk, a website known for finding everything japanese absolutely detestable, they keep getting caught in bias contreversies year after year after year.
There was a whole story a while back about the tone contributors giving German cars Ford and Chevrolet products VS Honda, Toyota and Suzuki.
Please everyone, google Autocar UK and Bias, they even had to address this several times

Because in Europe they know the "Lexus" is a Toyota Avensis with a Camry hybrid drivetrain. They may even mistake the car for a tarted-up Prius which is not, but still a bad a mix for Toyota.

Autocar is bias to germans, they intentionally make mistakes. AC compared CT to Golf Bluemotion. Dear Autocar, the Bluemotion is manual transmission car, CT is A/T (because hybrid). The DSG Bluemotion has robotized mechanical transmission with clutch which is burning in city driving (crawling). Bluemotion acceleration is 11,2 second which is more than the measured 11,1 seconds for CT. (mathematic!)
Autocar driven CT like the sport cars. The real customer does not. For Autocar the sporty driving is enjoy, I guess they are not paying for the gas.
Autocar: "There’s marginally more space in the back than in a BMW 1-series, but less than in an Audi A3 Sportback."
This is not true. I've driven all, the backspace of bimmer is 0. A3 and the bimmer has tunel at rear seat mid, no legroom at all.
No CVT in hybrid, only one planetary gear!
In diesels you should pay for clutch @ 40 kmiles, brake pads @ 30 kmiles, but not for the hybrids.
Conclusion: Autocar do not know about the cars and the technologies, they are not engineers. Back to the school Autocar! Or there lot of boulvard topics. Can you write about the celebs? It would be better.

Negative article about a Lexus? Cue the be-boosting and the replies calling Autocar incompetent and biased. We all know that there has never been a single negative about any Lexus ever produced. Something must be wrong with the writers?
Now cue my slalker.

Lexsucks, the problem here is more the person bringing the articles forward on Toyota and Lexus, let me give you an example.
If you want an opinion on a Jewish, Colored or Muslim person, do you go to the Neo-Nazi/ Stormfront website ?
Or do you try to form an opinion based on people around you who might be biased but in a more 50/50 way ?
I'm sure you can see the sense in my logic.
I strongly disagree with people who try to get personal with you by insulting you or calling you names.
But I am a firm believer ( like you I am sure ) that there is some good and some bad in everything.
The only perfect car as we all know, is the pope-mobile

"How funny. LexSUCKS just the other day dismissed Consumer's Report. Now he is badmouthing others for dismissing Autocar.
Two faced much? I guess you can stuck two at a time at least."
- CR and Autocar aren't equivalent when it comes to car reviews. I'm not sure how can equate the two. I don’t. That’s why I have different opinions about each publication. But it seems to me that you think that every car magazine, that reviews cars are equals. Get a clue.

The IS220d was never a serious threat to the established European players, both in sales and performance, fuel economy and refinement. As I recall, the IS220d was released unto the market right at that time when the Germans were releasing their facelifted A4, 3er and C class diesels.
I think the CT200h is "to complex" for the average European in regards to its hybrid engine. The car would probably have been better off if it came with a few gasoline and diesel engine options and not as a hybrid-only car. Its main rivals like the 1 series and A3 have no hybrid option. Their zippy yet efficient diesels make up the bulk of sales. Lexus is again being completely uncompetitive in regards to engine options - as usual - in Europe.

Sales numbers will tell the real story. It's early to say for sure, but I think it will catch on all over.....

Keep Dreaming. Europeans aren't Americans. If that were the case Lexus would have been a major player years ago in Europe. And sales numbers (current) are telling the story right now. Why should we have to wait?
Lexus is a failure in every country other than the U.S. There's a reason for that.
Now cue the personal attacks and insults from an insecure adolecent.

"Sales numbers will tell the real story."
Yep.
Glorified Toyota Camry (ES) and glorified Toyota Harrier (RX) = number one LEXUS cars in the US in terms of sales. Nice one.

you said the same thing about the HS250. they're selling 183/month in the US compared to projections of 2,500/month.

Lexus always gets very few great reviews as a brand on a whole (as does toyota), but that doesnt stop consumers from buying their products. Car reviews (especially from an enthusiast's standpoint) fail to capture what it is like to live with a car everyday and the real world experience.

Why Can't Lexus Make A Desirable Small Car? Because "Lexus" doesn't make cars. Never has. Toyota builds them.

onofyobus- You should know what you are talking about before making a ignorant statement for the world to see.
1) Cadillac was born in 1902.
2) Henry Leland named the company after his ancestor, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, born Antoine Laumet, the founder of Detroit.
3) It was purchased in 1909 by General Motors!
4) And Cadillac has not built a car since around 1910, they are GM parts cars and have been ever since they bought the company and made it a brand as the company no longer made cars.
5) "Similarly, Cadillac doesn't build cars. Never Has. GM builds them." You do not know your automotive history. Clearly Cadillac previously built cars for a short time and is another cog in the GM wheel.
