RENDERED SPECULATION: BMW i3 And A Possible 4-Series Coming Our Way?
It looks like now that we've seen actual spy photographs of Project i coming to fruition with running prototypes for the "i3" and "i8," some publications are beginning the next step: artist renderings. Given that the general shape and idea of the car has been revealed, it seems like this magazine cover has a relatively good idea as to what an i3 would possibly look like.

Even more intriguing is the supposed 4-Series also featured on the cover. BMWBlog is speculating that a new line up that stars a sleek looking trim level would essentially be a representation of a car between the 3-Series and 5-Series. Think of it as a 6-Series thats been scaled down and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Any thoughts on this, Spies?

Rumor of the year comes from German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport which reports on BMW’s plans to introduce a new 4 Series line-up. Beside the sedan, coupe and convertible variants, the magazine says a four-dour coupe type of vehicle will be introduced as well.

The 4er is said to compete with the A5 Sportback and it will feature a coupe-like roof line...

Maxima has 4 doors, That car pictured has 2. Not to mention it doesn't come anywhere close to resembling the Maxima. But you're a Lexus fan, so I can understand you seeing what you want to see vs. reality.

Why? Do people think current 3 series coupe not slick enough or sedan too ugly?

Not the former for me.

what's the problem with it? The E-class coupe and sedan are able to co-exist with the CLS. The Passat CC co-exists with the Passat. The A7 co-exists with the A6/A8 and A5 (hell, Audi even has an A5 Sportback in Europe, which is essentially a mini-A7). Some people like the more sporty look of a coupe but need four doors. Conversely some people don't need four doors, so those folks can get the regular coupe, and some need more rear space, so those folks can get the regular sedan. I think the upcoming 6-Series Gran Coupe is absolutely stunning -- if it looked like the rendering on that cover above I'd be all over a 3-Series Gran Coupe or 4-Series or whatever they call it.

dlin...Old time BMW fans are looking for an edgier, rawer 3 series in both design and performance. Something that reflects its roots and looks
and feels like an ultimate driving machine. A liitle less slick and polished liked the cuurent mass marketed 3 series. There is room for both or the real enthusiasts will look elsewhere.

Both the i3 and C-klasse van renderings are interesting. I see both doing well in most major cities in the US.
